I did not enjoy it at all, and think your 5/10 is very generous. From the '51 weeks later' after the initial opening scene and then doing nothing with the fact it was an anniversary. The predictability of the hallucination, the lack of physics (a single screw held it all in place? Climbing the ladder they could hear each other perfectly fine, step onto a platform and the wind is too loud to hear each other despite the fact it was an open frame they were climbing in

But then I went to the cinema to watch it. Perhaps I'd've been a bit more forgiving if I watched it at home.

I watched it over the weekend and maybe that's the thing - at home, I found it quite enjoyable. Yes, the whole set-up was clumsily amusing and pretty obvious (the rickety nature of the ladders) and the length of time Becky held on while charging the drone was ridiculous, but there were degrees of Bond film to it in that I was watching to see how the hell they'd get out of the situation - like (most) Bond films when you know James will survive with a wink and a quip.

Thought the filming was very impressive; it looked like they were up the top of a tower, when clearly they weren't. Would like to see a Making Of documentary on it from a film making perspective.

Went to see a double bill of Scream (2022) and Scream VI. I quite enjoyed it. I am a bit of a scream fan, have watched the previous movies multiple times, so might just be a little bit biased or maybe just feeling a light buzz at more new scream and may be less enamoured with it after digesting it/rewatching it. But my initial view was that it contained some clever subversions of tropes in the franchise, some neat set pieces. It does have some issues (a daytime/nighttime cut between two scenes that are meant to be happening too closely to each other for such dramatic change in lighting, and I worked out the killer(s?) quite early in the film), but overall I still liked it.

Everything Everywhere All At Once



I can't even begin. Probably the weirdest film I've ever seen. MIchelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis are excellent, the fight scenes are incredible, the parts where they have hot dogs for fingers are...well. I can't score it because tbh I'm not even sure if I liked it or not.

Its absolutely bananas.

I went to the secret screening at cineworld this evening and it turned out to be Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves. I'm still trying to digest what I thought about it. Chris Pine is always charming, and he carries the film as the leader of the group and main character arc. The pacing seemed a little odd - at times it felt like the filme was flying by, but the plot was dragging its feet. Hugh Grant has taken to foppishly comedic evil characters and is fun in that role. It wasn't quite the movie version of the old cartoon series I thought it was, though there is a reference to it.

I think there was enough to enjoy about it. I certainly chuckled or laughed a few times throughout.

Fortunately I turned over at 12. The last few years (at least) the show has started at 1am. Given the tendancy to run long, I'm happy to see it start earlier. Not sure if the jokes are falling flat, if the audience is poorly miced, or if my tv is turned down too low.

Really happy that The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse took the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film.

It was a TV highlight of Christmas for me. And Charlie Mackesy's acceptance speech was great.
