well... maybe i just have fifa 11 far too embedded in my head, i did something stupid like 10 seasons as manager of BHA on world class. I'm so used to those controls i just feel useless at defending in this game ..

also, no idea why the defending needed updating, you could jockey runs and the such with the old system, now its just over complicated.

I know exactly what you mean about having a previous game embedded into your mindset.

On Fifa 11 i knew i couldnt really shoot from an angle into the corner without the keeper easily stopping it so i never tried.

Yesterday on the demo i was almost forced to shoot from that situation and it was absolutely DRILLED into the bottom corner (much to my delight). So It certainly takes a while to learn the best way to play the game.

I think the logic behind the defensive changes is very good. It's basically to stop you just running into the oppponent and getting the ball. You now have to actively tackle the player which i think is more realistic to actual defending.

In the long run i think this will be an excellent addition.

Sounds like you're just not very good.....

 I love how wankerish this comment is (even though it's obviously made tongue in cheek) - whenever ANYONE complains about ANYTHING on Fifa, whether it's how stupid the AI is, how horribly easy EA games are to glitch and essentially cheat at (lagging out of matches, cloning pros, momentum!) there will ALWAYS be an EA fanboy lurking nearby with the classic "sounds like you're just shit at it, mate".

:tosser: (not you mate, the people who actually say this because they think they're really good)

things i hate with online play:

disconnecting just after you've selected your formation in the arena bit.
people quiting. shouldnt be allowed to quit.
but the most annoying thing is PLAYING AGAINST f***ing CHELSEA AND REAL MADRID IN EVERY f***ing GAME!!! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH!
you should pick your team and then be matched to an opponent whose picked a team of similar rating!

It is for one reason only; they are the best two teams in the game and people want to win every single game. I play as the Albion a lot and if they play as Real Madrid/Chelsea I still play them. Makes it all the more embarrassing for them if they fail to beat me - and I'm sure to send loads of abuse afterwards.

To be honest, I get quite happy when teams choose either of those two - I know which formation and style to use to counter. In fact, looking through my Fifa 11 results, I haven't lost to Chelsea or Real Madrid in 40-odd matches at least; the last team I lost to was Sheffield Wednesday :nono:

what do you play? i use 5-2-3 or 3-4-3 against them. i dont lose all the time to them tho, its just sooo boring trying to stop drogba/torres and ronaldo every game. also pepe and john terry are amazingly good and seem better than puyol and pique. really EA? REALLY?
with fifa if the player is strong AND quick they are very hard to play against. diaby is incredible:facepalm: and i personally think messi is shit for online play. need to make the dribbling better so that messi n co can stun defences with quick feet and accelerate away. then they will finally have an online mode to be proud of. barca (the speed) against chelsea (the slow but powerful).

I play a defensive 5-4-1 against them, with the defensive 7 players on high aggressive and pressing set in 'defensive'. But this is usually as I'm playing as a much weaker side. I'd be more adventurous if I chose Barca or another top side. Agree, Pepe is amazing as is Terry. Basically Fifa 11 measures how 'good' someone is by how strong and how quick they are. If they are both, they are incredible like Drogba or Ronaldo. If they are strong but not quick (Ibrahimovic) they are next to useless without a pacey strike partner. What annoys me is when they are small, strong as an ox and the fastest players in the game. So annoying.

It's simple. Go to a lobby, create a match, and set the star rating as 1-2, or 3-4 stars. No more Chelsea, Madrid, Barcelona, etc.

You still don't really accumulate enough money to buy any of the top top players, but i had a hell of a lot of the made up 'youth' players that come through and a lot of free agents that get released for some reason. Usually moved all of my budget into wages for that reason.

not ranked and for that reason i find theres not many opponents. struggle to get a connection to a game.

but when you do ranked you get a connection... against chelsea/madrid - oh wow!

I love this game! Just did it on Give me Deus Ex without killing anyone. I want the platinum trophy but can't find all those little pissing Doctorate eBooks. Bastards.

I did the first chunk of the game without killing anyone, but then i ran low on tranqs and have a silenced pistol and assault rifle and, well, temptation proved too much

I have to admit, after spending so long on the first playthrough all 'slowly slowly catchy monkey' it was very refreshing to play through while shooting everyone in the face, civilians and all.

Yeah, defending is tricky and so far haven't quite got the hang of it but am loving it. I don't know how to explain it but it just feels better to play? So much more satisfying when you do something well, like make a tackle, or score a deflected, looping shot :lolol: I like the holding down "LB" to slow down and position your feet for a pass. Shooting also feels more fluent and unpredictable as in FIFA 11 it felt like every shot was identical to another whereas in FIFA 12 the shots are much more varied and fun to score from, like when one of my striker just turned and shot with his left foot, fell over but the ball curved out of the keepers reach and in. Great fun
