Culture is not permanent and unchangeable - there have been many changes to UK culture in the life time of some of us, often backed with legislation and sanctions to force the changes on those who were reluctant to accept them - so if our culture can change, so should 'culture' of brutally and crudely abusing and mutilating young girls.

Not really, FGM often carried out without anesthetic or surgical support, often accompanied by infection and on girls who are already oppressed. Your observation is completely wrong.

Steady on. The point I was trying to make, is that it isn't a religious practise. Of course it's barbaric. As a woman, I think it's revolting especially when women try to give birth and have to be cut to do so.

It's not just the clitoris. Sometimes the labia are sewn up, which causes bladder problems and in some cases the vagina stitched up too, with a minute hole left for menstruation. The girls then suffer agony, when they marry.
