Good grief. I honestly mean no disrespect by this, but by God, it must be hard work being like this ALL the time, about EVERYTHING.

Not everything has to come down to class war or colonial subjugation. It’s possible for football fans of rival teams / countries to poke fun at each other, without any deeper meaning behind it.
Indeed,... too many fragile flakes with huge chips......

In my experience - when it comes to English fans - this is rarely, if ever a joke.

Over the years many, many, English fans tend to adopt an arrogant attitude in relation to the Irish team - a throwback to centuries of colonial domination - and seem to believe that the only reason why Ireland have qualified for tournaments was because of English footballers.

Their cough is usually softened when it is pointed out that Ireland (not Hungary) were the first non-home countries team to beat England on English soil (2-0 at Goodison Park in 1948) - and that England have not beaten Ireland in a competitive match since 1980 - Ireland 1W and 3D.

And lets not forget the full-scale riot that English fans (and only English fans) caused during a friendly at Landsdowne Road in 1995 shortly Ireland took the lead in the game - and injured 50 Irish fans in the process. Noteworthy - in the light of other threads on here - English fascists (Combat 18) specifically targeted the game to cause trouble. Jack Charlton said after the game 'I've seen a lot in football but I've never seen anything like that. Every Englishman should be ashamed'.
Not fans from Northern Ireland then ? Only I had on standing next to me in the stand that night when it kicked off.

Apparently Fifa rules state that you can change if you've played no more than 3 competitive games.
Apparently it's any games, including friendlies.

here and there
Ireland = definitely win nothing

England = probably win nothing
Ireland ensure they have a go and give it their all, making their nation proud.

England consistently let their nation down. They've done it for my 45 years of following the game.

I'm done with England national team, only good to laugh at. Stick with Eire Fergy!

On the question in hand -

Ferguson is back in Brighton and will be assessed by the club's medical staff today. Reports out of Ireland is that there is no indication that it is a long-term injury - but he could miss the next PL game.

Evan has six caps for Ireland - under the rules he cannot change -

But the entire discussion is nonsense - there was never any chance that Evan Ferguson was going to switch to England if you knew the first thing about him you would know that.

You’re correct. I know Evan loves his summer holidays. So by choosing Ireland there’s a very good chance he won’t have to go away for tournaments every 2 years

I absolutely don't think he'll change either. But hasn't he had 3 competitive caps. That's the differentiator here and why some people are worried...

I'm pleased we let him travel and let the Irish assess his fitness so that we can't be accused of preventing players reporting for international duty.
Yep, covered by others earlier in the thread and fair enough.

The arrival video on Twitter shows him rocking up with Connolly and being met by Duffy. He looks fine getting his luggage out of the taxi and no boot / crutches / limp so I guess it's 'minor' but minor enough that RoI wanted to look at it.

I'd assumed when I posted and before I saw that video it was much more serious.

*crosses fingers*

The rule is 3 caps, competitive or not. The competitive/non-competitive thing was the previous rule for changing.

Evan hasn't been able to change country since March '23 due to that.
I’m not saying he can change it. I was merely pointing out that only 3 of his 6 appearances have been in competitive games.
What's the relevance of that?
Nothing to you. I wasn’t commenting on one of your all too frequent posts. :thumbsup:
