Ferguson attacks Premier League
By Howard Nurse
BBC Sport website football editor, Milan

Sir Alex Ferguson
Ferguson's side looked jaded at the San Siro
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson launched a scathing attack on the Premier League after their Champions League exit.

Ferguson's side exited Europe after a 3-0 semi-final loss at AC Milan on Wednesday, going out 5-3 on aggregate.

"Leagues in other countries would help their clubs no end so they can prepare properly for European nights, so there is a problem there," he said.

"We've not had much help from the Premier League."

United face Manchester City on Saturday after failing to get the derby game put back 24 hours.

He added: "Nonetheless we will be there at City on Saturday.

"The television company were quite happy to move the game to Sunday but the Premier League refused. It's an unfair decision to make us play on Saturday."

Ferguson called into question the integrity of the Premier League's policy as United's weary squad try to pick themselves up after their Champions League exit at the hands of a ruthless AC Milan side.

You have to learn to recover from disappointment

Sir Alex Ferguson
Victory for United at City coupled with Chelsea failing to beat Arsenal would hand Ferguson his ninth Premiership title.

"Like I said, the television was happy to move the game to Sunday but the Premier League said the integrity of the competition had to be paramount. You can work out what integrity means, but I think it was an unfair decision," said Ferguson.

"The same happened when Tottenham had to play so soon after a European match."

Ferguson, who was full of praise for AC Milan who ended United's bid for another Treble, added: "We had a gruelling test at Everton and had to run the extra mile to win that match and that wasn't easy.

"You have to learn to recover from disappointment. I think Louis Saha and Rio Ferdinand will both be fit for Saturday so there's a glimmer of hope on player availability."

Asked for his view on the prospects of a second Liverpool v AC Milan final in three years, Ferguson added: "Both teams will be fresh for the final, they will be able to rest players and prepare fully."

So the fact that he has to play Man City on Saturday made them lose tonight ???

Liverpool and Milan will be fresh for the final, because the season will be finished by then and they are not in the FA Cup final :shootself

Milan managed to play last Sunday whereas United played Saturday lunchtime.

Its was because your precious players could NOT PASS THE BALL TO EACHOTHER and were taught a lesson how to do so by a BETTER TEAM.

If Manure's idea of defending is either to hoof it as far our as you can, or as in Heinze's case, piss about with it cluelessly, then you get what you deserve.

having said all that, what the f*** is the point in trying to pass it out of defence when all that is available is Giggs, carrick and Fletcher, all of whome would have struggled on that performance to get into our reserves.

If carrick is the answer to England without Beckham in midfield, we are truly f***ed

Is he still moaning about not moving the City fixture? For fucks sake, can he NEVER take responsibility?

Brilliant manager, but (adopts Rockin' Roy 'Splattersme' Hattersley from Spitting Image voice) - 'oh shot op Alex you widiculous man'.

Did anyone actually see the intereview after the game? I would be the first to admit that Ferguson can be a total idiot....however, his interview was spot on last night. He DID NOT blame anyone for the loss, he said Utd were beaten by the better team on the night. When asked about whether the Premier League were to blame, he said he would not make a comment as he would have to sit down and think about it during the close season. I thought for once he was pretty gracious in defeat.

The strange thing is, these are the SAME players that taught Roma (who are above Milan in the table) a football lesson just a few weeks back.....they knew how to pass a ball that night!

Perhaps if the Champions League was only for the real Champions like it used to be, the fixture list would be less congested? Man U were one of the clubs that wanted more European competion because of their own greed and wish to make huge profits.

Yes but unfortunately 'FERGUSON SLAMS PREMIER LEAGUE' makes a much more exciting headline than 'FERGUSON ADMITS "WE WERE BEATEN BY BETTER TEAM"'.

Bloody journalists.

I thought you could see if from the outset - United weren't up for it, in the same way Chelski weren't up for it: Liverpool and Milan both had the will to win and ran their socks off. Should be a great final. C'mon Liverpool:clap:

........................... which kind of supports his point - both these teams were able to rest players and spend at least a week preparing specifically for the game.

I am no fergie lover - but he has a point. Italian teams appear to be supported by their own leagues when it comes to European competition.

...and look how corrupt that is.

Milan played on Sunday, Man U on Saturday, so that point falls down. The fact that Man U are playing Man C on Saturday coming rather than Sunday is basically irrelevant.

The ONLY point Fergie could make is that Serie A is 34 games long, and the Premiership is 38.

The price of success, his squad is large enough.

Spurs had to play Sevila then Chelsea 36 hours later.
They also played 4 games in 8 days.

He knows his job is on the line.

....however, because they are not challenging for the title, Milan rested 6 players

Yes, and...?

Man U ARE challenging for their title. So they have to cut their cloth accordingly. Too bad if something has to give.

Don't understand the point you are making.

My point is, that although you rightly pointed out Milan played on Sunday - you can't compare the two if Milan rested their best players...it is not something I am passionate about!

if you also take my initial point that Ferguson DID NOT blame the premier league in his interview, I fail to see what POINT you are making.
