Female Commentator

yeah i agree, she sounds like shes reading it, like shes being told what to say. to be fair, she is a woman, and since when did they know anything about football. :p

Perhaps it's an effort/experiment to get women to watch football or appeal to the many that now do.
I think, if the commentator is bad or good, it doesn't matter what gender. I believe women will much prefer a good male commentator to any female or male who falls short of that.
The same goes for officials - it shouldn't matter which gender, and a female has to sustain the same standards and reactions as a male in judgements.

You hear about female court judges, and racially non-white judges, and lawyers can temper their presentations to suit. That should not have to be an issue, all should judge fairly and without prejudice based on their own conditions coming into it..

If she wasn't very good then so be it......to be fair there are a few male commentators I can't stand.

But I do think some of this verbal directed at her is because she is female whether you want to admit it or not. Its a male dominated occupation, some people just can't cope with a change.

Agree with this. When people say it sounds "wrong" or "strange" they're just registering the fact that it's relatively new and so it sounds different. Why the hell not a female commentator? We'll soon get used to it.

I'm all for females in football, but if you're not a good commentator, you're not a good commentator. Her voice just doesn't lend it itself to commentating in my opinion, she is too shrill and too piercing on the ears. It's nothing to do with gender, it's to do with her voice. When England ladies play on BBC they have a female commentator, I'm pretty sure she used to play for the ladies team? She's very good, whatever her name is.

I'm quite happy to have females in sport. Gullys Girls, Sue Barker, Gabby Logan and all those fit birds on sky sports news make great contributions, but you don't want them screaming down a mike at football matches. It just doesn't sound very good.

Quite, no-one can accuse Elizabeth Lambert, for example, of not having enough passion for the game:

Oddly, ALL of those were missed by the ref, apart from one, which got her a yellow.

Alison Mitchell isn't bad commentating on the Cricket.

I actually think she is bad (last time I heard her she kept getting players mixed up and during the world cup 20/20 games she didn't always describe every single ball)

No-one here is suggesting Jonathan Pearce is a good commentator.

:lolol: I'd forgotten the existence of that video. If I could contact her, and get her to play for my 5 a side team, we'd be a much better side.
