I think it was probably either late '78 or early summer '79. The Lambrettas were supporting and yes, there were hordes of scarey looking skins. I can remember one of the them asking where we were from and when we replied Lewes, he told us that he'd been to court there. :D

The most violent gig of that era was when Sham 69 played Brighton, somewhere in West Street I believe.

I wasnt there as I just didnt like or rate them, but people were getting punched out fairly indiscriminately that night.

Saw The Specials and The Selector at The Top Rank years ago.

Never been so scared at a gig in my life

Just double-checked it was 19 October 1979 and the first night of the tour.

I was there.....excellent night...if a bit hairy

If we are talking about two-tone/ska music, what about The Bed's too big without you - The Police.

Mirror in the Bathroom - The Beat - Excellent

Buster, he sold the heat
With a rocksteady beat... :smokin:

BUSTER HE SOLD THE HEAT
WITH A ROCK STEADY BEAT...

AN EARTHQUAKE IS ERUPTING
BUT NOT IN ORANGE STREET
A GHOST DANCE IS PREPARING
YOU'VE GOT TO HELP US WITH YOUR FEET
IF YOU'RE NOT IN THE MOOD TO DANCE
STEP BACK GRAB YOURSELF A SEAT
THIS MAY NOT BE UPTOWN JAMAICA
BUT WE PROMISE YOU A TREAT
BUSTER BOWL ME OVER WITH YOUR BOGUS DANCE
SHUFFLE ME OFF MY FEET
EVEN IF I KEPT ON RUNNING
I'D NEVER GET TO ORANGE STREET
SO I'D SAY THERE'S NOTHING LEFT TO SAY
FOR THE MAN WHO SET THE BEAT
SO I LEAVE IT UP TO YOU OUT THERE
TO GET HIM BACK ON HIS FEET

I prefer the lyrics to Croydon Shuffle

If you ever hear a noise in the night
Your body starts to sweat
It shakes and shivers in fright
You go and sleep with your mother
She hates your guts
She knows that you love her
So she holds you tight
All through the night
Until the broad daylight
And when she doesn't come home
You have to sleep alone
Then you wet your bed
And I think that's sad
For a girl of nineteen
It's more than sad
It's obscene!
One, two

And your girlfriend
Sweet little seventeen
She's got her layered hair
And her flared jeans
You know what that means?
She's just a little queen
She shares your London flat
She thinks that London's where it's at
Although it stinks
And when it rains you wear your hat
And your plum coloured PVC wet look maxi-mac
You tie your ginger hair back in a bun
You're the ugliest creature
Under the sun!

One, two
Go!

And you think it's about time that you died
And I agree, so you decide on suicide
You tried but you never quite carried it off
You only wanted to die in order to show off
And if you think you're gonna bleed all over me
You're even wronger than you'd normally be
And the only things you want to see are kitsch
The only thing you want to be is rich
Your little pink up-pointed nose begins to twitch
I know, you know
You're just a little bitch!

One, two

Nite Klub or Monkey Man for me.

I won't dance in a, club like this
All the girls are slags
and the beer tastes just like PISS
