John Barry - Somewhere in Time
Michael Nyman - The End of the Affair
John Barry - Out of Africa

I know the bloke who worked on the production of both the above John Barry scores (Danny Wallen) - and they are indeed both excellent soundtracks which I own.

I don't have the others in your list though I've seen some of those films, I'll make a note in case I see the CDs in the cheap bins or a charity shop (soundtracks tend not to be expensive anyway)

It's a very girly film but the soundtrack to Amelie by Yan Tiersen is also brilliant in places. The piano stuff is fantastic, the accordion stuff is a bit boring.

That's a beautiful piece, but...

There is nothing that gets every hair on my body standing on end, and makes my heart swell with more pride at being English, than this... (especially when you live in a far off land... )

Can I blast out a resounding sausage and strong beer-fuelled fart in the middle of this sentimental patriotic piffle and say that, in classical terms, compared to this little lot, England resolutely remains a "land without music", as someone once called it? BOW DOWN :lolol:

Anyway, if you like that "cowpat" English pastoralism (and actually I really do), then DELIUS is the king. On Hearing The First Cuckoo Of Spring is fantastic.

Dave, have you ever sung any Monteverdi? His Vespers ROCKS.

I'd agree, though sometimes he sounds exactly like Michael Nyman puffing on a Gauloise (no bad thing - I got married to Nyman's soundtrack to Wonderland).

Good job it wasn't his soundtrack to The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat.

Yes I have, once.

I find he sets the tenor range very high in the register and I am not that good a tenor. but yes, it is very nice to sing

i am currently doing Brahm's German Requiem for easter and the top notes are just beyond my range....luckily we have a couple of decent tenors who can hit the notes, therefore a good mime is the order of the day

A Crack House
Cant be frigged to read through all this rubbish (I stopped when I saw that someone had put 'great driving music' or some such comment) but has anyone mentioned:

The Shadows!

Toetapper
Apache

etc etc

All fantastic Hank, as opposed to the load of Hank mentioned further up the thread.
