Edinburgh is number one, but Leeds has great nightlife if you ignore the rampant northerness that abounds the place.

Lol, I suppose it's a fair thing. It is IN the north after all.

Can I place a vote for Shrewsbury? Not strictly a city but unrivalled imo for the sheer quantity of Tudor buildings. Thrashes Chester although that is similar in some ways. Lovely town and great walk by the Severn.

I quite like Norwich. You can't really beat London and Manc though.

Newcastle usually gets a mention. I'm glad it hasn't here. I spent a year there - its was bloody cold and everyone hated me.

And what loon voted for Luton? It's possibly the shittest place in the uk.

I'm surprised Bristol hasn't featured yet, given that it's vibe is pretty similar to Brighton.

I'm surprised too; however, I don't think Bristol is quite so well known for it as Brighton so doesn't get as much credit. Having lived here for 4 years though, I can say that it is an absolutely fantastic place and should be in anybody's top five at least.

Fabulous pubs, restaurants, architecture and night life all within a short walk.

Worked there for 2 years, loved it. Especially the fried pies and haggis pizza.

I think you will find that is exactly what makes it such a great place?

After 20 years of working on and off in Sweatyland I don't need your opinion about Glaswegians or any other of our 'Celtic Brothers' thank you. Thankfully I have made my money and don't need to go up there any more.

Brighton.
Chester.
Norwich.
Liverpool (possibly mostly due to sentimental reasons).

Liverpool for me. Absolutely fanatstic place. Real character that puts southern towns and cities and other northern ones to shame.

Good to see such a range of cities. For me:
Bristol - where I was at uni
Manchester where I live now ( although plenty of better places than Rusholme for a curry)
Nottingham
Edinburgh - a city with everything but weather!
