Been watching the Albion since 1994, so its gotta be Micky (The first time obviously) for the first success I saw my club have, after the dark dark days..........

Looking back though Mr Gritt did a cracking job against all the odds

coppell would be next.......just an astute and solid chap.

Coppell as a good a manager as he may be, will always be held responsible for the 5-0 drumming at Pala*se....and he still is one of them in my eyes.

Brady - because he was the manager when I first started to watch the Albion. I remember watching intently as he talked to the fans who were holding a half-time protest in the centre circle - was that against Notts County?

I would agree with that and then followed by Mullery first time. 2nd time he was shafted to allow Lloyd in.

where is freddie goodwin when you need him? Possibly one of the few on here who could remember back to the days of macaulay/goodwin/saward

Thanks very much and well done for keeping the great Kit Napier alive on our screens!

Archie Fac was my 1st manager, but that was at the tailend of his time.

Freddie Goodwin was young and ambitious, He had the football brain but also business too and really valued the supporters.

Pat Saward, took time to find his feet then made one of the most exciting teams ever, before he lost the plot.

Cloughie, heart was never in it.

Peter Taylor I, the brains behind Clough, brilliant at spotting talent and laid the foundations for Mullery.

Mullers, absolutly brilliant 1st time around.

Bailey, didn't fit our style. Early success with boring football but other teams sussed us and we had an ageing team.

Melia, back to entertainment, fun & a Cup Final run.

Cattlin, I'm not as keen as some others on here but he did seem to be getting to grips with the job when he got the boot and he was progressing. I've spoken to him a few times, years after he left Albion, and you can't shut him up with his passion for Albion. And he's a northerner!

Lloyd, Oh dear, must we remember him?

Brady, had the vision, had the tactics had the passion but had the 3 clowns runing the club so didn't stand a chance. There were some cracking matches under him.

Case, so sad that a legendary player be given an impossible job.

Gritt, had everyone against him, appointed as a 'patsy' to take the flak as we went out of the league. Except he didn't read that script and won through against all the odds.

Horton, great captain, was doing well as a manager and I'd have loved him to stay but he dumped us for a 'bigger club' . . .Port bloody Vale.

Adams, made us big & ugly, made us winners, gave us pride and promotion. How did he lose it?

Taylor II, tactically astute, poor at bringing in new players and suspect when things go wrong.

Coppell, for a Palace man to earn so much respect says it all.

McGhee, started well but seemed to fall out with too many players. the manager must be in control, he seemed to lose it. his comments after the Stoke debarcle still wrankle with me.

Wilkins, had potential and a fine young side but seemed to lack belief and was too cautious.

Slade, It's been a long time since a manager was so well accepted. Few had him as 1st choice but everything he does endears him to the fans, and that's without the Great escape that he pulled off last year.



I pick Freddie Goodwin as my user name because I thought he was a forgotten man, as he was only here for some 18 months. In the great scheme of things he may not be my 'real' fav but i've gotten to quite like the guy!

Pat Saward for me. That was my first experience of an Albion promotion and I'll never forget that. The guy worked wonders on a shoestring budget and his sacking was totally undeserved.

I thought McGhee was a manager of great integrity and liked Taylor (mark 1) and Mullery (mark 1) too but, like many on here, I never warmed to Lloyd - despite the success we had with him.

Mike Bailey, as he very kindly responded to a letter I sent him as a 13-year-old and invited me to watch the players train and get autographs and photos etc at the Goldstone back in the day.

Still clearly picture the whole day from start to finish. Wonderful stuff

Chris Cattlin. IMO the new Brian Clough. WOuld have been a premiership team if he wasn't shit on all those moons ago. The start of our downfall was the day he was sacked.

It should be Mullery for this pic, but WILKINS as he was my favourite player when I was growing up watching The Albion, and I loved his intention (as manager) of making the most of the youth system and promoting Sussex lads to the first team. Oh and the final whistle scenes at Chesterfield!!

It didnt quite work out, but its not who is the best, its about your favourite

Mullery - was a nipper in the Clough/Taylor era so I have not gone for the manager at the time of my BHA awakening; so more a plump for the memory of the whole atmosphere when Mr Mullery was in charge.
