Jimmy Case volley as the ball droppd over his shoulder on the run in the 7-0 v Chester(?) was a great goal.

Garry Nelson away at Aldershot (?) seemed like a 40 yarder at the time.

Goals considered great normally consist of one of the following:

- Great strikes (top corner finishes)
- A player travelling a long way wit the ball great distance (Dalian Atkinson - remember him?)
- Someone beating several players (ala Ricky Villa)

Nelson against Brentford had all three. The best goal I have ever seen live by a country mile.

TRHK the 7-0 was Charlton surely? the most boring albion match i have ever been to, seriously, we were 5 up at half time and in the second half it just seemed like Charlton had had enough and we just wanted to see out the 90 minutes without picking up injuries etc.

Im sure that Wilkins goal was at the South end goal, i remember it but havent a clue who it was against.

And now my favorite was against Mansfield in about 1977, Mansfield had a corner and Peter Ward was left up front on his own, the ball was cleared to him he took the ball round the THREE defenders who were marking him on the half way line ran to the North Stand penalty area where he sold the keeper a dummy took the ball around the keeper and slotted it in the empty net.
This match was on tv but i have never seen any footage of it since.

WE ALL AGREE PETER WARD IS MAGIC!

As a teenager I still recall a spectacular goal scored by Brian Bromley against Tranmere (I think?) at the Goldstone. Brilliant goal! (it seemed like he did his own assist!)

Yoe. Deffo volley from a floated corner in front of the north stand. It went in the top left hand corner of the goal and was a bit of a slice.

I remember that goal against Port Vale. I'm pretty sure we were 3-0 down and Wilkins stepped up with the consolation from a free kick. I'm sure it wasn't a volley.

Definetely wasnt from a direct free kick and im sure it was in front of the south stand. For some reason Bradford comes to mind when i think of this goal

In full and harmonious agreement.

I remember a cracker by Chapman at Dean Court in the late 80's / early 90's. We caught them on the break, the ball was played across the edge of the area, where Chappers flicked it up and did a sideways scissors-kick volley into the corner of the net. Local news credited it to BREMNER initially, but it was obvious the hunchbacked haggis-munching journeyman striker would never be capable of such an audacious effort.

No no no no no. That should read...

Munday at Leicester, League Cup 30-yard mis-hit-cross-come-hoof-it-into-the-box, 1994

I remember it being a well-placed - with power - rocket, that was totally intentional.

Were we at the same game?!
