Roy of the Rovers for me. Used to journey up on my funky blue & yellow roller boots to get the copy. Lost interest when they put Bob Wilson in goal and signed the Kemp twins !!

Eagle, then later Charles Buchan's Football Monthly. Can't forget the excitement each week waiting for the Eagle to arrive through the letter-box - sounds sad, I know, but I wonder whether this computer games generation can still relate to that sort of thrill of getting a comic each week tailored to the dreams and aspirations of a young lad, Dan Dare shooting into space to deal with the threats of the dreaded Mekon and other enemies, Sergeant Luck with the Foreign Legion, etc. Sounds dated now but there was something reassuringly comforting about meeting up again with your favourite characters each week, especially when they were so far removed from your own way of life.

I'm glad I'm not the only one old enough to remember Charles Buchan's Football Monthly.

Sparky, and Scorcher that became Scorcher and Score, that I think merged with Tiger and Jag to become Tiger.............

Progressed to Shoot! that merged with the slightly bigger (in size) Goal - used to tear out the pictures of Albion players (one every 6 months or so!) and any pics with Albion players in the background and sellotape them to bedroom wall. Remember Eddie Spearritt (sp) being featured once and buying two copies.

Funnily enough I also subscribed to the Economist for a couple of years for Economics A Level - looked impressive but never read.

"Disco 45" once gave away the single "Son of my Father" by Chicory Tip on a floppy/plastic 45 and recommended that a 2p coin was placed near the middle when playing to aid sound quality.

Once music mag used to feature a Slade cartoon story every week, Jimmy Lea always seemed to be the victim and Dave Powell looked even uglier. Dave Hill was the joker and Noddy Holder the fashion victim.

and those league ladders - memories - does anyone on here admit to keeping it going throughout an entire season?
