Fattest (professional) footballer you've ever seen?

Prompted by Sean Gregan's appearance at centre half for Oldham yesterday, who I believe was the widest footballer seen at Withdean since the days of Warren Aspinall.

Decent enough defender, I thought, good passer and excellent header of the ball, spoiled only by a total lack of pace and the turning circle of a supertanker.

It's a rare sight in this day and age to clock a professional player whose gut hangs over his shorts, but Gregan managed it. Gok Wan would have them playing in black, you know, it's far more flattering than luminious yellow.

Ah, I've just remembered Sheffield Wednesday legend Kevin Pressman. I do recall him playing against us at some point, and bein subjected to renditions of "You should have stuck to the salad" and "Weightwatchers, la la la".

In my experience 'fat' footballers always seem quality, especially against us. Maybe they have something to prove. Aspinall , whenever he played against us, no matter how much grief we gave him, always put in a m.o.m performance & mickey Quinn anyone?

To be fair, I've no doubt every one of these fuller figured players would easily outrun me, all day long, but nonetheless, they do seem to exist to provide entertainment for fans, amongst the Creatine-fuelled Muscle Marys that populate the game at the higher levels these days.

Hither (sometimes Thither)
Sadly, it's my lookalike former Palace scummer and hoover-inventor Tomas Brolin.
Our eating habits are bound to be similar. I might write to him and ask.

Taribo West? On second thoughts I am not sure that he was that big, just old.

Neville Southall when he turned out for Torquay didn't quite looked part anymore, but then kept a clean sheet if I remember correctly (second game at Withers?)

Neville Southall, especially when he turned out for Torquay at Withdean, and produced the best performance by a keeper I've seen there.

Ah yes, happy memories. He had a brilliant game, if I recall, but every time he dived to make a save it invoked thoughts of David Attenborough documentaries featuring Southern Right whales leaping out of the waves to catch fish for dinner.
