I had my trousers stolen from me on Ipanema beach in Rio first day I arrived.

And before anyone asks, I wasn't wearing them at the time. I had just got off a 13 hour bloody flight and
thought it would be a good idea to catch a few rays and a nap. I stuffed the trousers right next to me as a took said
nap and couldn't bloody believe it when I woke up and they had gone!!!!
You're not called Donald by any chance?

I can only speak about Virgin, but passenger flights are being cancelled and replaced with cargo only atm

I looked up online this general issue. Wizz and Ryanair for example have operated ‘Ghost Flights’, simply so that they didn’t have to refund passengers. I assume with just a couple of pilots as the crew to further reduce costs.

Guess they can afford it, plus they cant convert those plans into cargo.

Wizz will overtake Easyjet shortly as the go to carrier

Did you watch local TV news in the last couple of days?

Gatwick/Wizz have gone public in their annoyance that airlines won’t give up their prized slots. Airlines are using emergency pandemic rules to hog them with far fewer flights than pre pandemic. Other than Wizz, Gatwick have other new players ready to go.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-07-22/gatwick-slams-u-k-airport-plan-leaving-slots-fallow-for-winter

In other news, a new Norwegian airline to fly from Gatwick soon, Norse Atlantic.

I think its a bluff, I am not sure who is ready and willing to take the slots, think they are trying to get the airlines back that have said they are not/might not.

Off the top of my head Virgin/BA/Emirates/Norwegian have stopped or suspended flights from Gatwick and Thomas Cook went bust the summer before this all kicked off.

How many slots do Wizz air want?

A further suspension of “use it or lose it” rules “will lead to fewer flights, reduced connectivity and higher fares for consumers,” Ireland’s Ryanair, Europe’s biggest low-cost carrier, said in an email.

How do they keep the fares low with the current slots they have?

If you can afford a two week stopover in Zurich I doubt you’d be worrying about the airfare to Brazil

It's all relative. 10 days in budget accommodation anywhere in Europe (if I have to) won't be anywhere near the 6 grand mentioned for 2 people to quarantine at a hotel back in Uk, plus there's always some photo work for me to do to offset costs

Anything's better than 10 days in a prison cell.

These are amazing fares being offered by several European airlines. Looking to do a backpacking trip for 6 weeks or so mid Jan to early March, with the option to rebook at no extra cost + any possible fare difference included.

What with the current Covid situation. Brazil on the red list (14 day quarantine on return), high rates out there etc Is it worth taking a punt that things might change, ie Brazil goes to Amber

(Mrs S and I are both 60ish and double jabbed btw).

Behave! What you win on silly cheapo air fares, you more than lose on stupid quarantine fees :dunce:

You can still catch Covid.

I did, after two jabs, and spent 12 days in bed, and a night in hospital.

Really can't imagine that in South America...
Yep. Currently in Primark and the only one with a mask on. Well played Boris.

I came the closest I've ever come to dying at Ipanema beach. Ipanema is an old indigenous word for 'Dangerous Waters', they don't mention that in the song. I'm sorry about your trousers.

Similar story here. Two jabs (2nd one mid June), mid fifties, relatively fit and not overweight, taking zinc and vitamin D and don't normally get ill (so I assume my immune system is good). I have had COVID this last week which felt a bit like flu but getting better now. The slightly interesting thing is NHS sent me an antibody test kit. The results came back today. They say that I have plenty of antibodies but these would not have been as a result of a current infection. They would be there from a previous infection or from the vaccine. In summary, the antibodies I have did not prevent me getting whatever strain of COVID I have now. So for me at least, vaccine did not protect but may have prevented more severe symptoms (no way to tell really).

Few airlines reckon possibly November / December - personally don’t see it until next year. Some States are suffering more at the moment than any other point of covid
