FAO Billy Paynter

Err, how are the two comparable?

Hoskins and Buckley are two players who have suffered with injuries which have probably pissed them off more than the supporters, and only deserve our sympathy.

Billy Paynter is a shameless mercernary who shows so little commitment to the cause he is unwilling to even try and do one of the fundamental things we brought him to do (i.e. win headers). If you re-read my original post you will see it was light-hearted and jokey. However, the reality is that the guy is a disgrace to the shirt.

Surely that's Gus' problem for playing him - not Paynter's?

The last Barndoor scored a cracking winner on Saturday in the Championship, despite the received wisdom on NSC that he was pony and had found his level at League 2 amongst other know-it-all cliches.

Funny how nobody picked up on this post. I will though. Paynter is limited and had a poor game on saturday - BUT he showed some good touches, held up the ball on occasions and as the game wore on found more and more space whilst playing in a deep role that Barnes was also found wanting from until his withdrawal.

Paynter! You suck mate!
I've not seen such a bad striker in the stripes since Richard tiltman!
Please give all the Albion fans an early Xmas present by packing your bags and heading back up the M1.
It may pay to stop off at Bradford on the way back to Leeds , they're probably more your level.

did you not see Craig davies????????

This feels like the old days where people would do this to Fraser/Robinson/Loft. It is slightly uncalled for.

To be fair he came with that name from Leeds!

So leeds f***ed his confidence with that pathetic nickname, and some of our thick supporters aren't clever enough to work out that a bit of support from your own fans is all that some footballers need to kick-start their careers. I give you Guy Butters.

It's the same because, like you, they would argue they are just joking, but that there are undertones to these "jokes" and "light hearted comments" that are clearly anything but jovial. You, and they, are simply taking unnecessary, unfair digs at the players of the team you/they supposedly support and trying to dress it up as humour.

Its not unfair. He's so f***ing lazy/stupid he can't even be bothered to jump. To jump.

If an office worker turned up to work one day and refused to turn on the computer, he would be sacked.

Hopefully Paynter has had a look at this thread, seen the clips of those 9 year olds doing a better job of jumping than he does, and will win more headers next time he plays.

He does jump, though, I've seen it. Several times. So your very premise is flawed.

So if we start giving more support he might start jumping in the air?

Any sensible suggestions as to how we would do this practically? I mean, I doubt Billy is running around thinking "well if only those bloody Brighton fans started chanting my name and cheering my every touch, then I might be willing to jump in the air occasionally for the £10k a week I am earning."

How about en masse next week we all shout "JUMP" really loudly as the ball is heading towards him. That could work. Then he would know what to do.

He helped keep us up that season. Don't forget.

One swallow don't make a summer etc....

Still, he is f***ing wank and the fact he is 'unattached' proves my point!

so you started off being humourous and have now gone past mildly critical and have stepped into insulting. yep your point looks better with every minute that goes by.

Me too. I think he jumped 20 minutes into the first half of the Barnsley game. Although this is unconfirmed.

On a side note..... a mate of mine came to his first game at The Amex on Saturday. After about 70 minutes he turned round to me completely perplexed.... "how come Paynter never jumps for the ball?"

Perhaps its not just me then.

You're missing the point.

I wouldn't have started this thread if Paynter was missing loads of chances, or was displaying a woeful first touch, or slipping over every time he touched the ball. Those are all linked to confidence and when people were criticising Craig Davies for missing chances (or Ashley Barnes for his poor performances at times this season) I thought it was grossly unfair. He wasn't missing chances on purpose and the criticism of him only made things worse.

The difference is that Paynter is CHOOSING not to jump. That is my issue. I haven't criticised him for any other aspects of his game (and by Christ there's a few that need work).

I think you're missing the point. Gus has a much closer view of his all round game than you do. And he keeps picking him!

Angerkren chooses not to catch, Noone chooses to cut back inside again having beaten someone, greer chooses to launch the ball long at times. However these deficiencies are overlooked (by many) because of their wider contribution.

It would seem self-evident that jumping is not a strong point of his game - but actually your comments are straying beyond pure jumping and questioning his attitude (lazy) and commitment (mercenary).

But hey, whats wrong with another witch hunt when we have an abundance of in form strikers to choose from. Oh!

20,000 shouting jump as the ball is in the air, would be both awesome and f***ing funny

i had a group of so-called supporters behind me on saturday who did nothing but have a go at paynter from the word go.give the bloke a chance.whilst he's wearing the stripes and selected by gus ( in whom we trust) surely he should be encouraged .it would benefit the team to have him performing well.some people seem to be hoping he plays badly so they can slag him off.i thought his performance was pretty much on a par with barnes and navarro for example so why single him out.

Yes I absolutely hope he does see this thread, that would really help his confidence. It's not as if he needs any at the moment is it?
