In a pile of football shirts
Why did some of the 'students' in the marches have their faces concealed behind scarves?

Typical behaviour of these selfish, spoilt students; no thought for anyone but themselves. I just wish I had more confidence in this government to show the strength and resolve, not only to defeat these pampered brats (that should be easy), but the greater challenges coming from Red Len, Unite and the bolshie unions. I hope Cameron is made of stronger stuff than he seems; time will tell.

Oh dear, did you fall in a vat of stereotyping juice?

Amazing, I purchased a Chinese army surplus tank on ebay last week, and earlier this evening I was oiling the tracks. I'm setting off tomorrow and should be in Brighton by the fifth. I've taken note of your snazzy jacket KneeOn, so martyrdom awaits!

Or maybe this...

Because it was bitterly cold? I had my scarf up today as well. It was freezing out.

Apart from the two bits that I mentioned.

I'm not saying you're lying because I wasn't at the front. But did they REALLY taser people?!

I heard the clicking but I'm not exceptionally tall and had already walked from college to victoria gardens, to hove town hall. I did ask an officer at the Stiene (after that photo was taken, about half an hour later I decided i'd go see what I could see in town since i want to write a report of what I saw and get involved in seeing instead of relying on facebook - not to join in!) and he said although he was based on North Street, he'd be surprised since they'd need autherization. But if they did its a shame the police resorted to that but at the same time given recent events, its understandable to an extent.

As for the aggressive police. The ketteling at Palmeria was awful. Totally unwarrented because these apparant "scuffles" never took place till AFTER we were kettled! (given that I was a few people back from the front, and we were in quite a small kettle, you could see all around and I couldn't spot any fights and neither could anyone from my college who was spread about those who got out of the kettle, those who hung back behind and several in different spots inside)

As soon as the kettelling happened, shit set off. It was possibly going to be more peaceful than the other protests but that snap point changed the march and like i said, it almost justified for some (not me) the events in town after the protest ended (even if the majority did run away to town before it had ended)

Just sidestepping the right and wrongs of the policy, what do you think would cause a government to back down over its plans to raise tuition fees to £9,000?

I'm pretty sure the government would do almost anything to avoid looking as if it was caving in to students going on a march.

And what in that article suggests that Cable or any of his party have been influenced by the protests?

Nothing directly. But something has affected his thinking in recent days/weeks. And he mentions his party is going through a difficult period. So I presume the wide spread revulsion from students and the wider public has played a part. Either this or he has suddenly felt a pang of guilt for going against his manifesto pledge. What else could it be?

Not like the your so called 'workers' contributing their taxes but going on strike preventing thousands and thousands who had saved hard for their holidays from going on them, to the tube drivers crippling the tube services, fireman threatening to strike on bonfire night. Damn those students, they're the ones that really have disrupted this country with their chatting and wet shoes on buses!!! Hilarious!

So treating people with contempt, disdain and disregard and expect them to support you? Maybe it's not just education you are lacking in.

Oh they can 'cave in', they just say they're listening to the public.

what do you think would cause a government to back down over its plans to raise tuition fees to £9,000?

The Lid-Dems seem to be wavering tonight. Cable has said he might abstain. Clegg stated today he did not know how he would vote. Their votes will influence a lot of other Lib-Dem MP's votes. So, not getting a majority in the vote will cause the coalition to back down.

Under your skin.
I'm not saying you're lying because I wasn't at the front. But did they REALLY taser people?!

I heard the clicking, and then as I was walking away I heard 3-4 people who were in the front couple of rows mention Tasers. Add that a couple of other little things and I've put 2+2 together. Knowing my luck I've got 2783937.

Would be nice to hear from Edna...

When I posted the pics side by side, it wasn't as a dig. Just that it reminded me of the Tiananmen Square one, but more British.

I didn't think you were having a dig :lolol: I thought Rokerite was.

Although the police there were quite nice. They laughed at our appauling signs - i led my college and one girl made the signs with about five minutes till we left using quick-dry paaint - they were quite crap to say the least at times. I held the better one up but it got about and some one drew a penis with the word tory in! I showed them different message but you can't see that one obviously.
