Fanzine Delay

Dear All,

I am afraid the fanzine is not going to be out until the Sheffield United home game.

I was working on it with my friend until the early hours last night but in the end made the decision to hold it back.

Firstly, we could not open the file that the advert from The Large One was on, which I wanted included.

The front cover was ok, but I didnt think that the resolution of pic we had did either Roz's photography or Biscuit's design justice. It looked ok..ish but I wanted it to be perfect and was also aware that for Roz in particular, her reputation might be judged on the photos we had used and I did not want to repay her generosity by printing a sub standard copy.

I also have pm'd 'Dave the Gaffer' because I thought we should include something about the lady from the club shop who was killed. There was a message on the board from her family and I felt that this, accompanied with a few lines about her was something which would be nice to include. I obviously needed to ask Dave if we could get permission for this.

I appreciate that the march will now be a great chance missed to flog them, but I want the fanzine to be as good as it can be which, given the extra week before the Sheffield United game, hopefully it will be.

This is not through lack of effort on the part of myself or my friend (who incidentally has worked on it all week despite being off work very ill). Please if anyone is thinking of having a pop at me because of this can they just realise that nobody is as gutted about this as me and that at the end of the day, at least it will get out.

Please can people keep the 'I told you it would be crap because Richie is in charge' to themselves. It is precisely because I do not want it to come out and not be as good as it could be that it will not be on sale on Monday.

I am well aware that certain people on here will start with the 'I told you it would not be out' (please prove me wrong Lord B) but I did not want to send it to print with things missing which I thought were important and for it to contain rushed pages which were not of the quality I expect.

Anyone who wants to have a pop? Well, at least I am doing it. Would you rather I did not bother at all and we did not have one?

I think what I am trying to say is that I am gutted it is not ready so can people not lay in to me. I am trying to do something for the good of this club and do not think I deserve the abuse I will almost certainly recieve.

C'mon Richie, don't give the doubters the pleasure. Monday's the day when you've got not ONE but TWO highly captived audiences i.e. the march and the get-together. It's a one-off shot. Bring out 24 pages if you have to. Go with what you've got. Either that or don't blame other people. Folks will still shell out a quid for something less than perfect. Certainly I would. & I know a fair old bit about bringing out shit fanzines. If you're daft enough to blow the chance to sell x hundred copies on the Monday, then at least have the suss to hustle Skint for a full-page ad for Palookaville on the Saturday. Good luck either way

If you had a problem with the artwork I sent you, you should let ME know before you band it about on here, sunshine. It was sent as a jpeg (bog-standard for Photoshop). I couldn't send it as a tiff because a 300dpi A5 CMYK file because it would have been too big. 18MB even on broadband takes time. Don't you dare blame me for the delay.

I could have sent you this message on a PM, but I told you it would be crap because you're in charge. And I know for a fact that I am not the only one pissed off with your behaviour about this particular episode, Mister. No names, but I'll let them slag you off in their own time in their own way.

I was not having a pop The Large One. Not in the slightest. I realise it was not your fault at all and was not blaming you in any way so Im sorry if that is how it has come across. What I meant was that we had a problem opening it (through no fault of yours) and wanted to make sure it was included.

I honestly did not mean to put any blame on you at all The Large One. I was merely saying that because we had problems we could not include it and that I wanted to make sure it was included because it is a worthwhile inclusion.

I have no idea why we could not open it but at no point blamed you.

On another topic altogether, yes we missed two home games and now the march, but I have not done this on purpose. I could have got a crap one with articles written exclusively by me ready for the wolves game but this would not have done it justice.

He has been given so much help and advice from professionals in the industry (and I humbly include myself in that) who inhabit this board, and yet he still either ignores or fails to understand what is required.

Hence my frustration. Especially when he throws it back at me.

Firstly I did not throw the help offered back at Alan. As I said Alan, I was not blaming you. Sorry if it sounded like I was.

The advice I have got from you and Roz has been extremely helpful and I am very greatful for that.

I still do not think I deserve the abuse I am getting. The fact of the matter is that nobody who can commit the time to producing this fanzine has access to Quark, myself included. Therefore I have had to get a friend to do it for us. This presents obvious difficulties.

I think I have done a decent job, along with Biscuit, in collecting articles in.

I have tried my hardest to liase with my friend who is laying it up but practicalities mean this is not always possible. We both work and live a fair drive apart.

This was the best I could make of an unfortunate situation and sadly meant that the fanzine was not ready to go to print in time to get back for Monday. However, I have been doing the best I can and this means it will be ready to go to print some time next week.

I have never claimed to be a professional journalist etc, Im only two weeks into sitting my NCTJ! I do however claim to be someone who is genuinely trying to do something for the good of this club and Im willing to spend a fair amount of time doing and also spend a fair amount of money covering printing.The people who helped cover the costs of the first one were a god send. Ok, I am finding problems along the way and there have been setbacks but I never said there would not be.

If there is someone out there who has Quark and can commit the time to lay a 32 page fanzine up then that is great.If not then I am doing the best I can and please can everyone stop having a go at me for it. The way I see it at present the other option is to not have a fanzine.
