Fans meeting at the Amex: making the atmosphere good

At least the dress code will enhance the atmosphere.

The North Stand, in particular, will look fantastic with EVERYONE dressed like this.

As has been previously mentioned, WSU is the key.
When the noise only comes from one area others are reluctant to join in.
Away last season at Sheffield Wednesday they has the band/ singing behind the goal and the upper tier to our left were loud too...the result was that the whole ground was rocking and we were completely drowned out.....not something that we were used to on the road..........THATS HOW ITS DONE and maybe we need a song like their # Hi Ho Sheffield Wednesday# that really encourages you to join in loudly, the crowd were definitely the 12th man....

i think you will find other sections might get a bit lively too!

I still think we need a new club war anthem. GOSBTS is a nice jolly hockey sticks kind of song but we something with a bit more bite to it. I think the song is too slow and doesn't generate the right kind of atmosphere.

A "jolly hockey sticks song"? It's a first world war marching anthem for soldiers who vow to 'stand or fall' for their county & country.

If that's not a stirring enough song, then what is?

And just as importantly, it's ours. Not some contrived effort like Arsenal's "The Wonder of You" which has no relevance at all.

And on the subject of GOSBTS being too slow... Ever been to Celtic or Liverpool and experienced "You'll Never Walk Alone" live. I've seen it at both and it's superb. That's not exactly a quick number.... In fact, it's the slow pace and everyone singing that makes it special. Similarly, I can remember Stoke fans belting out 'Delilah' at the Millennium Stadium - superb.

That's why the words need to go on the big screen.

4. there will be a selection of loud music to wind the atmosphere up and in effect dround out the away fans, which is what happens to us at away games...

I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS. I want to be able to speak to the person next to me, to hear the fans singing (even if it is the away fans), and enjoy the 'buzz'... not some crappy pop music.

i have to agree with Giraffe on the away fans. If people think the Amex will be 'rocking' every game and we will be loud as ever their living in cloud cuckoo! any team who bring 2000+ will outsing us, its just the way 99% of away games are. i just hope we just take enough away from home to do the same.....theres some cracking away ends early on like Pompy and Bristol City where we can make a right racket and they're are the games i'm most looking forward to.

thank god the flags are for Donny......some of the other teams fans in this div would rip us apart for it...cringe

"1. the management want the fans to forget singing songs and winding up the opposing fans and get behind the team"

People will pooh-pooh this one but I think there is a decent point being made. Abusive songs about the opposition (especially ones that have swearing in) will never catch on and be sung en masse around the ground. Good songs about the Albion and our players sometimes will - so the more of those the better.

Plus I'm sure songs lauding players like last season's Elliott Bennett one do give the team a lift far more than the ones aimed at opposing fans. Ok, it was a bit annoying after a while but with a bit more variety, that type of constant noise on a bigger scale would be fantastic...

I agree that the Goldstone was generally a very quiet ground, certainly from the mid-80s onwards. But this is a fresh start and a chance to establish the culture that Albion = Noisy in the same way that places like Stoke have managed to acheive. It's good the club are actively interested in trying to promote a fervent, football atmosphere.

Was Richard Hebbard there? The issue of being allowed to stand for more than just a goal will need to be addressed. The farce at Withdean was ridiculous. I would hope the back 25% of each stand is allowed to stand for example.

f*** that! Have you stood a few rows from the back in the WSU?
I was worried I'd fall after 0 beers, I'll be strapped to the seat after a few!

Ow well. Over the past 12 months it must have been raised (pun intended) a dozen times but no clarity from anyone at club nor uber fans means I'm cancelling the several hundred pounds of giant flags commissioned to make Amexfield. Shame really thought it would look good. But just not prepared to risk not being allowed in. Sure a little plastic one on each seat will look terrific.
