Not that it would happen as I think it'll go traditional or fully 'win the cup', but would love to see two verses, chorus, altogether now, win the cup chorus. Ie...

Now is the time for marching
Now let your hearts be gay
Hark to the merry bugles
Sounding along our way
So let your voices ring, my boys,
And take the time from me
And I'll sing you a song, as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea.

For we're the men from Sussex
Sussex by the sea,
We plough and sow and reap and mow,
And useful men we are we:
And when you go from Sussex,
Whoever you may be,
You tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Altogether now

Good old Sussex by the Sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
And we're going up to win the cup
For Sussex by the sea.

"loud music" definitely anathema to me as the main source of building excitement. You could play no music at all and people will be bloody excited about Doncaster. But there you go - like every other club, that's what we're saddled with by the sounds of it.

yup....btw if you are in the north stand....look to the east stand....where the Amex banner is, there was acsuggestion that all Brighton flags be hung there during games....would look brilliant

the discussion was not about ' right here right now' it was ' put your hands up for Brighton '

I think people have to accept that football has moved on from cloth caps and jumpers for goalposts. The suggestion at the meeting was that the best atmosphere at withdean came from A) fc united fans who put the " you can't get an atmos at with dean" well and truly to bed

Yes. A shame they didn't play the music a lot louder at that FC United game so nobody could hear them. Then it would have been a great atmosphere obviously ;-)

.it's all about creating an atmosphere and the way to do that and the way the club are going is loud music, pumping the blood and getting people excited.

GW, you don't really believe that do you?

I've seen you starting songs at withdean and by your accounts you were around in the 80s, 90s ect, I can't believe you actually think it's a good thing, all of the evidence is to the contrary.

...and 70's ....to be honest no....I prefer spontaneity BUT I think the club believe that at falmer that will not be enough. I will still try to get people singing as I believe it is all about the fans and there are enough people who do sing...but there will be at least 10'000 who have not seen us since the Cardiff playoff or indeed at all.....I suppose it's up to us old school to keep the old songs going

There's certainly a recognition that we will have 12,000 fare weather fans, many of whom might have gone to one or two matches in their whole life.

I really liked the idea of playing historical Albion clips leading up to kick-off. Maybe some dramatic music with it... Like this perhaps? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db40S82sqic&feature=youtube_gdata_player. Enough to get all fans involved I would say

Don't buy that at all more than likely that the vast majority will be people who make a number of home and away games each year but did not want to commit to a season ticket at withdean. Yes there will be some people who are not Brighton fans or have only been to a couple of games but 12,000 no chance!!

Even if it's true about the fairweather fans, that's no reason to tailor the build-up predominantly to them. When I first went to games in 1979, the club had it's own long-established traditions. That's what made it what it was and learning those little nuances, like what songs tend to be sung when and what music plays as the team comes out of the tunnel, was all just part of the experience. Why would take something with such a distinct identity as the Albion and try to make it resemble something else? We could all sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone', because it works brilliantly at other clubs. But we don't because it's nothing to do with our club.

Interestingly, from an atmosphere point of view, it was pretty clear today how influential the big screens can be. Atmosphere lacking? Cut up a nice big close-up of Gus Poyet, for example, and you're guaranteed a response and to kick start some songs. As long as you can hear them over the noise of the PA, it'll be cracking.

Within the Albion there is yes. That was something I got from yesterday's meeting anyway

I really don't believe that's the case whatsoever. I really don't. MAny, many fans wouldn't go to Withers and a lot returning from Goldstone days.

I know lots with ST's who are big fans but would go to 2 or 3 Withers games a season if that - mainly because it was shite!

The Goldstone was a different kettle of fish. Terracing = Atmosphere. Those that wanted to make noise went and stood in the North Stand in the area where the noise was made. Of course the whole North stand eventually was making noise but the songs generally all started from one or two areas.
At the AMEX you are stuck where you are for the season.
I am like many fans I would suggest. I will make as much noise as anybody, and I want to go to the footy and sing. BUT if I am in a seat with a bunch of old farts around me who have no interest in anything other than the odd "Seagulls" whilst sipping their Bovril............. That is when I will be depressingly sat back in my seat. If this happens all over the AMEX then we will be in trouble.

And for those who do not believe this could happen. Then you can look at many examples of far noisier clubs than us, that have moved and gone quiet. The stand out one for me is Man City. Maine Road was loud. All City fans will tell you when they moved it was terrible. I am not sure if it is any better there now, and they placed the blame totally on the fact that the singers were sat all over the place.

The key to the whole of the Amex atmosphere lies in the WSU. IF the WSU is full of people who want to go for it, then the ground will be rocking. We know the north standers will sing anyway, so I do not think they make a difference either way. If the WSU are on top form then the rest will follow suit and as someone posted the other day the West stand will be shit scary to play in front of.

That's my two pennies worth anyway.

Well i stood in the north stand at the gold stone from 14 years old - i have a seat with 12 mates in WSU near to the north stand - we are all in our 40's and we will sing our hearts out for the lads!

Good news no goal music :amex:

Bit of a depressing this thread this to be honest.

You mark my words, goal music will be next. If the club have already decided that we need music to help get the atmosphere going then it's only a tiny logical step to having music after goals to 'help with the celebrating'. It'll be tried once 'as an experiment' when there's a small crowd (perhaps for an early-season League Cup game) and then kept as 'people liked it and it seemed to make a difference'.

And if they think that all the new STHs are 'fairweather fans' (which we know from reading just posts on here isn't the case) then I can tell them what will keep them coming back - a winning team. No one but NO ONE goes off to a football match saying "yeah, we've been shit all season and we're going to get relegated, but I love the music before kick-off"

Brighton - In your face
Drums?? f*** no. The last thing I want for my Friday night hangover is someone banging a friggin drum. There are 24,000 people in an enclosed area, if that isn't enough to cause an atmosphere, especially given the fact we're back in the championship I worry. But the thing is, I don't and I don't think the club should.
