The fat dancer from Take That and the not so fat dancer from N-Sync.

Also a mention for Dave Grohl, I know foo fighters isn’t a solo act and that Nirvana is way bigger, but he certainly elevated himself from the drummer to frontman.

Not sure I would say Nirvana were waybigger than Foo fighters. FF are a pretty massive band in their own right.
Probably an argument that Foo fighters would not have made it big without Nirvana though.

Good shout!

Love Nick Cave, but I walked out of a Birthday Party gig in Leeds in the 1980s after just two songs - a fekkin' racket (and I like punk!) and the band aggressively goading the audience to provoke a response.

I'm a big fan of both. Never saw the Birthday Party live- was offered a ticket in 83, but 14 year old me chickened out of going. Regrets...

Vandergraaf Generator and Peter Hammill (although the two are pretty much one and the same).

Taste and Rory Gallagher

Them and Van Morrison

Kingdom Come and Arthur Brown

Japan and David Sylvian (arguably, based mainly on longevity)

The Yardbirds and Jeff Beck

Hunters and Collectors, and Mark Seymour

My biggest music-related regret was when going to see The Buzzcocks in London in the early 1980s, but deciding to give the 'special guests' support act a miss in favour of sitting in the bar.

We didn't know that the support act was an up-and-coming Manc band called Joy Division. Have never forgiven myself!

I saw them three times, around 81/2. Brutal. Once at a pop up venue called Action Space (may have something to do with university college London), once at the Hammersmith Palais (supported by The Fall) and once somewhere else (could have been the Nashville in West Ken).

Noel Gallagher was a guitar technician for the Inspiral Carpets. Does that count? ???

Bigger than the Beatles? I would like to think not.

I was tempted to include Lennon in my list but the fact is the Beatles were bigger.

I am a massive non-fan of all three, I have to confess.

Peter Gabriel (Genesis)

Paul Weller (The Jam)

Bjork (The Sugarcubes)

Ozzy Osbourne (Black Sabbath)

Alison Moyet (Yazoo)

Come on, The Jam were the biggest band in the Country for a few years. Singles going straight in at number 1 (when you actually had to sell more than 200 copies) massive world wide tours etc etc. Weller has never reached that status as a solo artist. You could probably argue the same about Genesis and Black Sabbath. I’ll let you have Moyet and Bjork.

Could it have been Klub Foot at the Clarendon Hotel in Hammersmith? Pretty sure I saw them there at least once, possibly twice.

As for The Birthday Party - "Not for me, Clive"! Mind you, I didn't rate The Fall first time I saw them, so maybe I'm no judge.
