I thought you had to have 2 or 4 people to a car... so that should be say 700 spaces for 1901 members ??

It's Timmy talking shite and being a prat. Again.

Meanwhile, there's about 1,100 spaces at University of Sussex, 1,000 at Falmer School and about 150 on-site.

Then there's 'off-site' parking i.e. P&R at three sites; Mill Road, Mithras House, Brighton Racecourse.

The last page of this thread sums up in a nutshell why nobody should ever pay any attention to Tim's shithouse blog in the Argus. He hasn't got a f***ing clue what he's talking about.

But that is missing the point I was making. Apart from the fact that half of those spaces will be swallowed up by 1901, Hospitality, Directors and the like and the fact that you will need to have a full car and pay a premium to use the other spaces, the point I was making is that unlike the majority of other grounds, there is no parking adjacent to the stadium. No roads, no multi stories or companies letting you use their car parks. Mill Road and Mithras House are already running close to capacity. Brighton Racecourse is not the most accessible of sites. All of thse factors suggest that the relative percentage of fans coming via trains is likely to increase dramatically compared to Withdean, especially given the proximity of the station.

Currently, coming from the east of the county I choose to drive and parking outside the exclusion zone. With the options currently announced, the best option for me now looks to be the train as the other options involve driving past the stadium in order to get transport back. Hopefully, options such as coaches from outlying towns or a Lewes area Park and Ride will be announced and alleviate this potential problem. But surely you can see why the transport options currently available suggest that maybe the train network will not be able to cope in the event of a capacity crowd?

Am I to take it you are not one of my many fans? Just guessing like.

Me and Mike Ward are thinking of taking a picnic to Beachy Head tomorrow.

It depends what you mean by 'cannot cope'. If you mean everyone getting away and into your preferred mode of transport immediately, forget it. But then, hardly any grounds offer that facility. Also, I don't agree that 'half' of the 1901 Club members will take the car parking spaces. The numbers don't add up; I make it will be closer to about a third, though I take your point. But then, not every 1901 Club member will arrive by car.

I don't know what you mean by Brighton Racecourse not being the most accessible of sites. It's a good starting point for people in east Brighton, Rottingdean, Saltdean, Telscombe. People in Peacehaven may, I'd suspect, if not driving to Falmer, take the train from Newhaven. Those along the south coast between Brighton and Newhaven are probably the worst served by the public transport system.

You yourself say you have to drive past the stadium to get a car parking space. You won't have that as an issue going home if you park at the University of Sussex, for instance.

I've no idea who will be doing what regards transport to and from the ground - myself, I've got two or three options; others don't. I suspect there will be teething problems - in fact, I'm expecting teething problems, but as time passes, people will sort themselves out and make allowances for what the transport system can and can't deliver.

Is that a perfect scenario? Nope, far from it. But then, which site can deliver that?

Well I am walking in straight line from my house over Hollingbury Golf Course and down through Coldean and Stanmer Park. I will probably get the train back via the 1901 members fast track queue. I kid you not.

?

Ask the club then,.... the Falmer Project team should get you answer within a decade or so.

By the way what exactly are the train options there and back, or is this stated elsewhere,.... I am too lazy to search.

I've just gone on to National Rail to look at train times for this Saturday (assuming the timetable doesn't change between then and now), and it's telling me that before the match, trains from Brighton to Falmer are taking 24 minutes (should be 9 minutes) - with no disruptions.

So somewhere down the line, the National Rail website is f***ed.

hopefully the drop off point will not be too much hassle, as I cannot see the point in hanging around trying to get a train.

Drop off at 2:30 ish and pick up at 5 ish! Not the sort of supporter the club wants, but hey...

The website is fine if you read it properly it tells you buses are replacing trains, Thats why it's taking 24 minute's.
