[TV] Fallout

Started Fallout 4 couple of weeks ago, but had to stop as it was a buggy mess. I had two missions that just didn't 'complete', leaving the character I was supposed to talk to to continue the missions just standing in the same spot not doing anything. Thought I'd give it another go when the update for the X:S comes out.

For now, I'm playing Fallout: New Vegas, which seems to be running OK so far.

Frustratingly Fallout 4 has always been buggy. Which is a real shame, because it is an amazing game. I've always found the area surrounding Goodneighbour, to be particularly problematic. It's worth persevering with though and just making sure you save regularly.

In terms of the TV series, the more I chat to friends the more I think if you're not a fan of the games you won't appreciate the series as much. Personally I think the series is excellent. It has everything from the games. To the point where I think its not a case of the tv show doing the games justice, it has expanded on the canon. But if you're coming to the series fresh, I can appreciate there's a lot of subtle things you probably won't see.

Still trying to convince Mrs I to watch this, so I haven't seen any yet, but if she doesn't give in within the next couple of weeks, I'll skive off from WFH and watch. My first encounter with the Fallout universe was Fallout: Tactics from back in the day.

I’d keep going. I’ve not played it in years but it’s one of my favourite ever games. I believe I had one crash in the whole play through though… which helps.

Oh, I haven't given up. I played Fallout 3 to death when it came out, I hadn't realised the next gen update was just around the corner, so looking forward to starting again and getting back into it.

I’d keep going. I’ve not played it in years but it’s one of my favourite ever games. I believe I had one crash in the whole play through though… which helps.

This -- just save regularly. Crashes are unfortunately common to Bethesda games.

So sad Matthew Perry isn’t around to appear in some capacity in the series. He was a huge Fallout fan, and asked for a part in New Vegas simply because he loved the series. So many amazing characters - Mr House, Benny, Yes Man…

Oo I didn't know that. Do you know if you'll have to start a new game, or if the update will work with old saves?

You may want to start up your copy of Fallout 4 if playing on PS5 and have either the season pass or dlc installed. There's a known issue with two dlc packs, automatron and wasteland workshop. If you have either installed you won't be able to start the game, it keeps crashing as soon as the Bethesda logo appears, it's just happened with me so I'm installing it again without those two specific dlc.

For those getting in to the games:

Fallout 3 & 4 are good games, which I have sunk many hours in to.

Fallout New Vegas might be the best game ever made.

Fallout 76 is… look, just don’t play it okay.

I appreciate the significance of his vault to Vault-Tec, but did Hank really have access to nukes with which to destroy Shady Sands? How? Were any other vault overseers empowered to launch nuclear strikes?

Fallout 76 establishes that there are nuke stockpiles in bunkers in the wasteland, so the existence of the nukes themselves are canon in the Fallout universe. As for his access to them, that wasn’t established with any certainty, as you say. I wonder if this will be explored later.

Ah, fair enough. I never played FO76, but I'm not surprised to hear some nuke stockpiles survived.

Started watching this one on the recommendation of friends. Hated it at first, and still hate the 50's soundtrack, but am on S1E3 and have to admit I'm finding it excelente. Has a Wes Anderson look and feel about it. Great fun and okie-dokie I think I love Lucy

Just a few examples
When about to have her organs harvested she manages to disable the robot as suddenly her legs were free, or why the armored suit doesn't have a manual internal release if its power source has been removed, or how Lucy suddenly appears to save Maximus when she was tracking the head, which left that location the night before, or why the radiation didn't kill them when they stood by the bomb crater at Shady Sands which was destroyed only 15 years earlier and also why the ghoul just forgot about the bounty on the head, he said the digestion was slow but he seemed to have just given up

But fans of the games have probably been immersed in that world for hundreds of hours, so if they make a tv show that's consistent to the game's lore, then there's a good chance they'll love it.

From my experience I would say it’s rather boring without knowledge of the game.

I have never played a ‘game’ in my life. Too old probably.
Watched Episode 1 last night, but won’t be watching any more. As I said, I reckon I am just too ancient!

I've not seen any of it (don't have Amazon), but are any of the characters portrayed as shoving literally any random crap they come across down their trousers until they need to hire a transit van to carry it all, on the off chance that it later comes in handy?
