Facts that everyone in this country should know

We haven't been invaded by another nation since 1066...if you are prepared to overlook the Germans taking the Channel Islands in WWII.

I think you should replaced invaded by conquered. There have been plenty of invasions in the British Isles since 1066.

besides the corrections already pointed out, one could argue the Duke of Normandy and his army was not in fact a nation, but a nearby foreign warlord.

now if you had said we haven't been conquered by a foreign power since 1066, you might have had a fact. the William of Orange situation makes that even contenuous, but it was an invitation from Parliament who held power really (and so it has been ever since).

Britain is the largest investor in the USA

really? larger than China? or is this based on all time history, adjusted for inflation?

i dont think we are doing so well on these facts :lolol:

You could argue also that William was not invading but asserting his right to the English throne, something that Harold Godwinson had sworn to support (before breaking his word and claiming it for himself). William's claim to the throne was also supported by the Pope.

Given that Harold and William were distantly related, it was as much a family spat as a full-blown invasion.

Apparently we produce the best goalkeepers in the world who also produce the best clangers in the world

Oliver Postgate produced the best Clangers in the world, but as far as we know, he never played in goal - Bagpuss did.
