Memorable band, especially live.
One NME scribe named Curtis's dance as 'the dead fly', for that spindly grasping dervish seizure-like movement he did. Purported to be epileptic, he supposedly 'suffered' those fits onstage....but at a precise moment, so he could recover for the encore. Hmm.
Incidentally, A Certain Ration played Beachdown the other week, and were quite good - but sparsely witnessed even though on the main stage.

Personally, I preferred 'She's Lost Control', which opened 'Unknown Pleasures'.
It's coldness and the base use of syndrum against the bass-line was quintessential Joy Division.
Love 'Shes Lost Control' and obviously 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' is a classic however for me 'Warsaw' is great and, after seeing the recent Antoin Corbijn film i would say 'Atmosphere' is the one that gets me every time.
Watching that film is still the most Non-Albion related emotional moment i've had in the last 10 years. But then im dead inside or so my girlfriend lovingly tells me!

No, not in a millions years, possibly the most overrated and hyped band in history. But for Curtiss' suicide they would have vanished into total obscurity.

Biggest selling 12" in history ? Hard to say when Factory weren't part of the BPIA we only have their word for it. However it's worth noting that there's nothing like somebody passing away to increase their popularity. Elvis did okay after his death as did people like Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison to name but two more.

Well Marley and Hendrix were big when alive, however I would say in the case of Joplin and maybe the likes of Tim Buckley their passing raised their profile. It's almost a cliché to say that dying doesn't do you any harm, I wonder if Gary Glitter has thought of trying it.
