We may be arguing semantics here between the difference of informal taks, nods, winks etc and formal negotiations and I am certainly NOT an expert in football/FIFA contract law:
However - As I understand it - The release clause in a contract doesn’t agree the fee the player or manager will eventually transfer out at, it only sets a minimum transfer fee that formal negotiations can even start at, unless that minimum starting point is matched - as with Barco, against Bocca’s wishes, we triggered negotiations for a transfer last summer because he had a release clause in his contract - Man City expressed a higher bid - we sat in the sidelines for months. Barco lost interest in Man City (presumably because he wanted to play for an EPL football not on loan to a Championship side for 12 months) and we submitted a fresh bid in November- (the rest is some complicated negotiation history)
So it if a Club has no interest in selling, they can refuse to open up any serious/formal negotiations if there is NO release clause in their contract with the player/manager.
St Pauli can just say “no” to talks.
That doesn’t mean to say “tapping up” doesn’t go on all the time - of course it does

What I meant was whether since yesterday’s reporting, whether the talks have ended or are still ongoing. The media are usually one or two steps behind the curve. It’s at a stage now where things are happening very quickly.

Work permit is something that came up in the original telegraph article. But I would imagine the guy will be paid at least a Milly a year on a 3 year contract, so I suspect the government would fast track this process seeing he will be paying way over a million in taxes over those 3 years !

You need a GBE to get a work permit. The criteria are in the link.

In some countries (obviously I've never tried applying for a UK work permit), Hurzeler would be young enough to qualify a Working Holiday visa and could come over for 2/3 years without meeting any other requirement. Sounds perfect for a prospective football manager now that I think about it.
