Is this one of those words that people assume are Americanisms but turn out to have been really common in Britain up until the 1820s or so?

I thought I was good at English.

But a 31* year old German, a GERMAN, has taught me a new word in English - convincement. He used it a number of times in his pre-match presser.
I just assumed it was a made up word. But it isn't. It really exists.

Ha. I just watched that and thought the same. In fact I thought what a fantastic word he'd just made up.
