It was done to us 6 games into a new season after all the preseason planning had been done by Potter & his team. Chelsea f***ed us over!! We have hired new managers in the close-season when the incumbent club have time to react and prepare. In other words - the right way.
I am not saying we are like chelsea I am just saying that for the manager involved what his motivations would be as a person. Since the question was why would he not stay.

Wonder if their supporters feel the same way...
they are probably understandably pissed off, but that doesnt make our hiring of Fabian in anyway similar to Chelseas attempted destruction of the management, playing, and recreuit, ent set up at Brighton

How is any team going to recruit players, managers, coaches etc if the DONT hire people already employed somewhere else-the entire football structure would simply stop!

Its not THAT the hired GP et all, its how and when they did it. Had they approached Potter after the end of the previous season (as we did with Fabian) and went through the usual process of hiring him and others, then whislt we would have been pissed off(as ST Pauli fans are), threre wouldnt be the same level of hatred and disdain for GP, Chelsea

Brighton arent the bad guys here, they have done nothing underhand, or morally wrong

It will be interesting to see, how much of his coaching style and philosophy will be implemented. Especially excited to see if he is changing the formation to a 3-4-3 and implementing similar dynamics on the pitch.

I can already see it happen, that Verbruggen is getting additional play time on building up from behind and working on his technique with the ball.
Also that one of your more skilled central defenders, becoming a part of a 3 defense line center, who is moving up into midfield to open up the game. Or in any case, maybe even get Groß (if he stays) to become that deep lying midfielder falling back between the central defence.

Certainly Estupinan and Lamptey will move up and become a more vital part in attacking dynamics as I laid out in one of my other posts about his tactical approach with wingers and right and left backs.

I will follow his journey with Brighton and for all of you, I am hoping his style will suit you and elevate you to european football again. He certainly has that potential, as our squad was nowhere near to be top of the league.

I think a 3-4-3 line up will really suit Barco and Hinshelwood.
I always think wingbacks need great energy and technique and they have it in spades.
We also have Pervis and Tariq too to cover these positions.
( on his Insta Pervis looks like he is progressing well in terms of his fitness- training well)

The team frequently played 3-4-3 and 3-4-2-1 under Graham Potter. Many players in the team are well accustomed to the kind of triangle play Hurzeler wants with horizontal and vertical passing options every time a player has the ball. Even if De Zerbi had other ideas, many of the players - such as the Dutch ones and the academy ones - are schooled with triangle play. Its especially important in build up and with Van Hecke, Veltman and Verbruggen, we have a Dutch trio force fed with understanding how the triangles work in football.

Brighton has continously signed wing/full backs with a wing back role rather than a full back role in mind. They are certainly going to play a bigger role this season. Pervis is the man no doubt, he'll look great with adequate support behind him, Lamptey... can't rely on him. Both Solly and Lamptey are fine as RWB but we could really do with a good investment there.

I wonder what team starts against Everton?

If Groß is the only sale who’d have been a starter, I think we’re looking at something like this with no significant signings.

———————-Verbruggen———————-
—-—-Van Hecke—-Baleba———Dunk———
Hinshelwood—Gilmour—Buonanotte—Barco
—-Adingra———-Pedro——-Mitoma———-

However, I’m not worried that the players beginning with a ‘B’ are not ideal as they are so inexperienced.

I’m looking forward to see who the Libero will be as well as Gilmour’s partner who’ll be given the freedom to join the front attacking players whenever he can. As you imply, an expert right wing back could be a great acquisition as I can’t see the club extending Lamptey’s contract. What is the point in keeping him if he walks next year?

Enciso would surely have a place if fit.

Agreed - As will Ferguson, Osman and March if fit. (Although March unlikely by the beginning of the season). Gone are the days where we only have 11 starters in the squad - (did we ever?)
And now their star player from last season looks like he is USA bound…
It was reported last week that Hartel was in the States looking at St Louis so not unexpected - shame though, I mused a few weeks ago that I thought he could have been a profile older player for us that would have boosted our CAM 😉 - maybe not EPL standard but (in the absence of Lallana) certainly could have helped Buonanotte (or whoever will eventually take the attacking pivot/ left sided #10 role) to adapt to FH’s system.

We need another winger/right wing back IMO) to rotate with Hinshelwood in that role (Lamptey doesn’t have the speed on the ball nor does Veltman although the latter could rotate into a back 3 ) .

Ideally, we could do with another left wingback/winger too given the vital role the Wingbacks will play in Fabi-ball. Pervis had not regained his pre-injury speed last season. Barco will be dynamite down the left side ( as Hinsh will on the right ) but he is also still very young too and I think we need to be prepared for inconsistencies in his performances (in fairness to him).

It’s far too early I think for guessing lineups though or indeed what shape FH will use (the 3,4,3 btw is just a start up shape - he starts with a 3,4,3 but transitions very quickly into a four man build up as the central defender moves forward with the wing-backs holding the width, leaving 2 at the back. Under RDZ we tended to build with a three (converted from an initial back four)

Not so much playing out from the back in triangles that some people keep referring to but rather diamonds.

- let’s see where we are with fitness levels of existing squad and any summer signings which hopefully will include another CAM, a RWB and maybe a CB/CDM who can rotate with Baleba (or Igor/VH?) while he grows into the libero/sweeper role (which he handled well imo when RDZ used him as such last season).

One thing we do know is that Hürzeler‘s DNA is to build his system from the inside out, to suit his players, he doesn’t impose a system if he does not have the players to fill a role - that is one of the key differences in approach perhaps cf to RDZ.

His touchline antics upset a lot of opponents last season this is going to be fun.
I genuinely think most of his yellows were refs just trying to mark their territory. I don't wanna go all conspiracy theory about it but it sure as f*** felt like they saw a young coach and thought let's take him down a notch before he gets any ideas. And once he had two or three he was seemingly under even more scrutiny from refs cause now he had a reputation.

It got a bit ridiculous. The opponent's coach running into our coaching zone but Hürzeler getting the only yellow levels of ridiculous. He's passionate for sure but he's not gonna throw hands or anything.
