[Albion] Fab OUT

So beating United, Newcastle, City and Bournemouth must mean something IS working then no?
The argument with them wins is United had a goal ruled out by fluke, Newcastle battered us but we defended well, City should've been out of sight by half time and Bournemouth were the crossbar from getting a draw albeit we were down to 10 men for most of 2nd half.

Like our philosophy with players, we have invested in a young skilled individual, but this time, with the attributes to be a top quality European coach.

We need to be prepared to let lessons be learnt 'on the job' and experience to be learnt to be a necessary part of becoming the finished asset to our club. This was the choice that Tony/PBOBE took at the start of the summer break - and I back it.

We're not relegation contenders - far from it.
We're a team with excellent qualities from the players in our squad to the direction given from the club to those players.

If FH left in the next 1/2 years then another club will benefit from all the experience gained from his time with us, where he had full support and guidance from a quality backroom staff and upper management team.

MAYBE we don't make Europe this year... Or the next. But by the time we do get there we could be perfectly placed to maintain that position for years and years to come. Like a young player (Caicedo, Mac Allister et al) we need to be patient and in full support as we sit 10th in the most competitive league in the world of football.

This all sounds a little like when I sat through near on three seasons of abject disappointment/mediocrity under Potter. He then had his hot streak, which coincidentally aligned with the arrival of a couple of world class players, and couldn't get out of here quick enough to more affluent pastures where he was swiftly found out.

Not sure I want to sit through that again...

You can sit through that again. If you sat through much of the previous forty years, you can sit through that 👍

By that logic we were a post away from an early goal, confidence boost, ensico hatrick and cricket score.

I don’t subscribe to sacking FH and there is no way the patient TB is anywhere near as knee jerk after disappointment as we can be.

My worry is that although we had some similar results over a longer period with GP, I thought I could see what he was trying to get the team to do. I am not seeing that under FH and we do look one horrendous and repeated cock up from conceding every game and do so more often than not, whereas in front of goal we are currently as wasteful as Potterball at it’s worst.

Keepers must love playing against us, they are all close to being or are MOTM in most games

GP had it a lot easier in his first 18 games mind, he was taking over from Hughton, just passing the ball around a bit was a dramatic sea change. Fab is taking over from the most system-based manager we have ever had, arguably one of the most system-based manager the Premier league has ever seen.

I believe Fab wants to be flexible, to adopt different styles based on the opposition, and based on our teams skills, and I also think he wants to try different things out during this first season. I also think he is a bit kneejeek changing when things go wrong, like the extreme high line was ditched after Chelsea, and suddenly against West Ham Bart is kicking it long following the Fulham error. That's probably his inexperience talking, RDZ would have just kept on going. But I think this fixation on a 'style' is in part something to beat him with, and part a hangover from having RDZ

Agree it has been a poor period but we are 3 points off European football. Liverpool aside the teams in the top half are very congested.

Just because we spent £200m doesn’t mean we can expect immediate results. It takes time for tactics and players to gel. The fact is we are a young team with little premier league experience so should be given TIME. I am in it for the long haul and prepared to wait a couple of seasons to give it a chance.

People also seem to have forgotten the late period RdZ when we lost heavily to Fulham, Bournemouth, Arsenal, Roma and City, playing suicidal football. Not sure who these older experienced managers that we should be going for to replace FH with are either? Havent heard any names being put forward that suits the exciting attacking football the team are trying to play

I get your view 100% but, in a season where City, united spurs and villa are inconsistent, it could be so much better for us. Instead, we've got Forest Fulham and Bournemouth showing us how to make the most of the so called big boys wobbling.

I totally agree. Huge chance this year to upset the apple cart. We're not out of the race yet though

You can tell that the players really are struggling to figure out what style of football to play by looking at one player tonight - Bart. Had no idea what to do in starting our play so just stood there dumbfounded with the ball at his feet with fans screaming at him. Not great
Who would you have passed to when all of our players were being man marked second half?

The issue isn’t Bart. The issue is that the manager didn’t recognise the need to free up space further back to give more passing options, and the players ahead of him not moving more effectively to give him those options, despite being man marked.

Quite frankly, BV was hung out to dry last night.

To a degree I agree with this, however we never seem to look for a quick release or break when Bart gets possession of the ball. It seems so ponderous waiting for all the outfield players to reset.

agree with the broad points of this post, though i will say i'm not exactly sure what attributes you have seen that indicate he’ll be a top coach one day.

i hate the use of the word entitled on here as more often than not it’s simply football fans being frustrated (breaking news!) and tends to lead into the whole “i’m a better fan than you” type of argument. however, had tony said to us in the summer, “okay, roberto’s gone, i’m going to take a bit of a gamble on the next appointment and we might go a step or so backwards next season, but in the long term i think it will work out, and i really believe in this next guy”, it would indeed be really entitled to throw a fit and say “NO, we need europe next season and nothing else will do!”
that doesn’t mean we can’t call out rubbish tactics or decisions when we see it, or the lack of identity and character that is so obvious and very concerning right now, but it doesn’t always have to lead immediately to the nuclear option of sacking the manager. failure to invest in the defence has also handicapped FH somewhat.

the only thing i really hope is, whenever it does finally click with FH (here’s hoping!), i hope he remembers the loyalty that TB showed when things maybe weren’t going so well, and doesn’t swan off the second spurs or someone comes knocking. that might be wishful thinking though.
