Bit of an overreaction, but this is possibly the best Albion squad ever and a lot of money was spent in the summer. These dropped points against weaker sides are getting frustrating now, and you wonder where this team could be with an experienced manager.
That really depends on who that more experienced manager is doesn't it?

Lamptey is an effective right back, just in a different way to how Veltman is an effective right back. He’s had 2 assists and a goal in 4 or 5 appearances (statistics that I don’t imagine - although I’ve not checked this - Velts has matched in his entire time here).

His attacking output is excellent, however much people on here try to dismiss him (and no, I don’t think he’s ‘the answer’). He’s just a different type of right back to Veltman, and rather than adjusting tactically the recognise his strengths and weaknesses, we’ve played the same system spread across the whole pitch, with no extra cover for the defence, and we’ve constantly changed the RWer in front of him.

This isn’t on Lamptey, it isn’t on the injuries, it’s currently on our tactically inept manager.

And having a team of 8 first choice players playing a game against your rivals is not a bad place to be in this league. We’re making excuses if we’re trying to pretend it’s a good excuse for the managerial failings that keep happening.

Deja vu. Lamptey is a poor defender. Positioning, often caught wrong side, little sense of danger. Aspinall/Cantor in commentary on Sunday were candid about TL’s errors.

In recent threads when defending FH, ever positive posters mention in passing “With all our decent RB’s out at the moment”.

Still in Brighton
Young manager with potential is learning as he goes, oh, with a young squad doing the same. Too much moaning on here from fans who suddenly think they are entitled. Lots of mistakes being made but we are in no danger, at all, of relegation. Personally, I'm happy to follow this journey to the end of this season. And then reevaluate.

But that’s the point of my post. If you know he’s good going forward and not the best defensively, you adapt to that.

You don’t sit there slamming the guy for not being as good as Veltman defensively, you focus on how much better offensively he is and then cover his defensive weaknesses.

It’s football management at its most basic form, yet our new guy can’t seem to find solutions other than going to a 3 at the back formation that is, at best, lacking in functionality.

Agreed - at best a RWB with tons of cover behind him.

Disagree - I think he’s an atrocious defender, should be nowhere near a PL back 4. One on ones is another facet, any winger/LB can and will beat him with ease.

This. Lamptey was simply awful for their second. He jumped, missed the ball allowing Mitchell to control it, fell over, allowed Mitchell to get to the byline and whip in a an unchallenged cross.
Dreadful decision-making. It pains me to say it, because he's such a delight and has given us some wonderful moments, but just not up to it.

Nice to see so many know-alls throwing their hat into the ring as next manager.

Dream on, lads. Dream on :lolol:

And I thought Starmer was Captain Hindsight? ???

Edit: time for activation of the thread ignore function. It was absolute wank from the start

And just this minute on TS they're talking about us and employing Fabian whereas someone like Lampard "why wasn't he given the chance at Brighton" or Russell Martin and Gary O'Neil would do a great job at Brighton as we have better players. They are talking about lack of British managers in Premier league and used us (Tony Bloom) as an example in terms of bringing in an unknown!

Southampton at the Amex, first 25 minutes, twice in otherwise innocuous play, the worst team in the PL got in on goal the wrong side of TL. Would’ve just been a routine passage of play for us if TL had been positioned properly . Bizarrely he chose to move touchline side of their left winger. Who wasn’t Diblng!

But this works both ways, and that’s the point no one else seems to be considering. You could reverse these points for Veltman.

Excellent defender.

Awful, L1 at best going forward. Offers zero support for the winger. Zero progressive passes. Slows us down and makes our right hand side ineffective from an attacking perspective…

So you adapt to which player is available. And that’s the manager’s role - to find a system that functions for the players he has available, by utilising their strengths and hiding their weaknesses.

No one sits and watches TAA for Liverpool and thinks he’s a world class defender (and no, I don’t think Lamptey’s anywhere close to his level offensively, as no one else in the world is in that position), but they know that they maximise what he offers on the ball and adapt defensively to cover what he does poorly.

We’ve not done that. We’ve absolutely hung the guy out to dry. And that’s on our manager.

That reminds me. I never wanna see lamptey and minteh as our right side ever again, sends shivers down the spine thinking about it.

If lamptey had someone who actually tracked back in front of him he might stand a chance. Or maybe put lamptey RW and moder RB as a short term fix.

I didn't realise TalkSport employed people straight out of lobotomy surgery.

Maybe it's a form of therapy.
