[Albion] FA Cup QF Draw Wed 1.3.23

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Won’t be Friday as we're playing Wednesday vs Palace.
City will be Saturday as they can’t play home same day as ManU who have to play Sunday.
So we’re 50/50 Saturday or Sunday.
I suspect club/police asking for Sunday due to train strike. Sheff Utd vs Blackburn not massively affected by train strike being on Saturday.
If it is Sunday, I’ll have to cheekily ask my daughter if I can have my roast dinner and present on the Saturday instead. :lolol:

For the Liverpool game, the club gave STHs first dibs, but they could choose any seat they wanted.

A large number of STHs chose seats that weren't their own - a lot of people like a bit of "stand tourism" for cup games.

I'd guess the club may do the same again, as it seems to be quite popular.
We did the stand tourism for the Liverpool game, got seats very near De Zerbi and spent half the game watching him! There are three of us, all STH including my son who has asked if I can get a ticket for his GF to sit with us for the Grimsby game. She doesn't have any membership at all, is it likely that to do this we would have to risk waiting for the general sale?

For Liverpool STH+guest was made available as 2nd level of sale I think - I relied on this to take Mini Exile and get "good" seats together before general sale. I'm hoping it'll be the same for this one.

I don’t know whether to be joyful or worried about this… of course we are miles better than Grimsby but it will be a very different sort of game. We used to play teams like them in the old days , they kick lumps off you. It will be tough ,a hard fought game and I doubt there will be many goals . I hope RDZ knows what these lowly Northern teams are like .

Well, we just played Stoke, who also tried to kick lumps out of us. We coped admirably

I wonder what the Grimsby view on the draw is? They would have been big underdogs whoever they got so would they have preferred a day in Manchester over the less glamorous option of the Albion?

If I was a Grimsby fan I’d consider us the worst possible draw. Furthest away, hardest to get to and probably the best team that doesn’t have the glamour of either Manchester team.

I suppose the only positive is it’s a good place to make a weekend of it.

I try not to get too carried away as the Albion have always had a way of bringing me back down to earth with a bang but a VERY winnable game for us and just 4 EPL clubs left in the quarters and a Championship side guaranteed to be in the Semis... ONE HAND ON THE F*CKING TROPHY, LADS!!!

We are at home on a good pitch. Easy game. Put the first team out get the job done. And bring on the youth for the last 30 mins.

Crazy night for the Mariners last night. I’ve woken up feeling absolutely shattered in my London hotel room.

Weird thing is, I genuinely thought we could do something against Southampton. Lady Luck was, for once, on our side and my second live taste of VAR was a lot more enjoyable than my first (which included a 2nd minute video assisted red card at Palace).

I think it’s fair to say of all the possible outcomes, most Town fans would have hoped for Man Utd - and not all for the obvious reasons. We haven’t played United since the 40s so for most living Town fans they are the one club we’ve never seen us play.

But for me, Brighton is a fantastic draw. Another long journey no doubt, and I’m going to have to be clever how I square that weekend with the missus given its Mother’s Day on the Sunday, but the Amex is a ground I’ve always wanted to visit and, as most of you know, Brighton are a club I have a huge amount of admiration and respect for - and even a little bit of affection having spent my fair share of time on here over the years.

I do however, hold no hope of reaching the semis. As I say, I thought Southampton would be there for the taking and they were - just. You lot right now appear to be on the cusp of completing the transition from Premier League middleweights to genuine English football elites, and probably pound-for-pound, the most impressive club in the world right now.

We needed luck to beat Southampton and we got it. We’ll need an absolute fúcking miracle to get past the Albion and my expectations, in terms of a positive result, are extraordinarily low. But nevertheless, I’m looking forward to the weekend and the game, and hope to maybe bump into one or two of the NSC massive.

Exciting times for fishy folk.
