So much of it comes down to form and relationships on the pitch too. I’d have rather than a team of players bang in form who aren’t as technically brilliant, than a completely out of form world class option. If Haaland is lolloping around for 6-7 matches looking uninterested, I’d rather pick a Chris Wood who has scored 6 in his last 6 or whatever and looking deadly.

And the other issue is relationships and teamwork on the pitch. EVERYONE hustling for each other, your wingers doubling up and working in tandem with your full backs, your central midfielders pressing and covering each other.

Whenever I see these best XI sides, they’re always the best, most skilful footballers but it has no bearing on what a team might need in other regards. You couldn’t have 11 Maradona’s because you need a Passarella and Gallego in there to let him play his game.

Nottingham Forest have done well as a team which are the sum of their parts, working hard, very organised and with a couple of players who might create something.

If they don't pull themselves out of their slump, they will finish 10th. But I doubt they will and I expect them to finish somewhere between 4th and 7th. But wherever they finish, they simply aren't bang average, and that is all I'm saying. Any team that is 3rd in March see served far more respect than that.
I think most of us agree they're not bang average. Fulham, for example, are bang average, which makes it all the more annoying that we can never beat them.

Forest should by rights be bang average but have a couple of high class players (Gibbs-White, Murillo) some decent-on-their-day ones (Hudson-Odoi, Elanga, Milenkovic etc) and some old guys having a freakish late career wonder-season (Sels, Wood). They also have some absolute trash in there (Ryan Yates and the Stag-Do Grealish) along with a fair bit of PL squad filler who could literally be in or out of the starting XI at any club outside the top eight (like Ola Aina and Neco Williams).

For whatever reason, it's all clicked for them this season. Hard to imagine they'll keep smashing it next year though.

There is no day of the week I’d ever have Chris Wood over Haaland, sorry that’s just laughable

Yes, a team that's beaten us 7-0 has only got one player whose good enough to get in our team.
When Everton beat us 1-5 at home did you think their players were good enough for our team in our prime De Zerbi season? I think not. Is Andy Ruiz a better boxer than Anthony Joshua? Of course not. But on a one off he had a better night. Same principle as the 7-0. Let’s not be silly and say their players are better than they actually are.

Ooo they have man city on Saturday that will be interesting.

How many internationals do they have Vs us? Will Chris wood be away ?
NONE!... because they're 'bang average' apparently :ROFLMAO:

Oh go on then, as you asked. Only 14 internationals.

For bang average countries, naturally.

You sound like the Palace supporters saying that none of our players get in their team.

Plenty saying they’re not bang average. Still haven’t heard who from their whole squad gets in our starting 11? Other than Murillo, I’d argue none of the rest
You're absolutely asking to be pasted on to a Forest message board for that, and with good reason.

I know they're outperforming their level on almost every metric and you'd expect the law of averages to catch up with them eventually, but they've still had a season beyond their wildest dreams. I suspect they might laugh you out of the room for the "nobody other than Murillo" comment. Verging on arrogance IMHO.

Shall we let the league table do that for us instead then?

I don’t see it that way. I see it that if a player is completely out of form, poor body language, poor level of performance, I’d go with the guy who might be technically not as good, but is benefitting the team more. Yes, even if it’s an unfashionable name. We are currently picking Minteh, Mitoma and even Solly March ahead of a guy Adingra who starred as MOTM in the Africa Cup of Nations final, winning the thing.

Reputations aren’t everything and a team requires everyone doing their role in the team. This is where the coaches earn their money, getting this cohesion.

Oh no, I will cry myself to sleep at the thought of being copy and pasted.

They’re above Man City in the league, I wonder how many of their players Man City will be desperate to sign this summer. None, because they’re bang average

Much more likely to be played sometime Sat now as Forest have a live match on TNT on the Tue so that probably won't move and it would save our game v Villa moving as well.
Forest will stay on the Tuesday evening TNT game as Notts County have already switched to play on the Wednesday evening - therefore yes our game against Forest is 99.99% going to be Saturday.

Edit to add that Villa looking like they’re going to be playing at Preston on the Sunday so our home game will be the Weds v Villa
