Brilliant strategy, and let's not forget, brilliant execution by Lewis. I'm not sure Bottas would have been able to pull it off.

Great races this season. Lewis and Max are a class apart and seem to have great respect for each other as do the team leaders. Hope the rest of the season matches the same levels. I’m definitely warming to Max this season as he seems to have developed a maturity that will make him one of the greats. Hamilton is on another level though.

When Lewis retires, I’ve always thought that I’ll support Verstappen. I like the Dutch and him, his passion.

He has been the 2nd best driver on the grid for some time.

I do hope that Leclerc, Norris & Russell (in the Merc next year) can give Max a race eventually as clearly Perez & Bottas can’t. F1 can be dull with the peerless Hamilton, I don’t want it to be the same with a dominant Max year after year.

Another masterclass from Hamilton again despite losing Pole position at the start. Just to make it interesting again next season, I would like to see maybe Alonso in the same car as he is only one of the few drivers who could compete with him, as we saw in Hamilton's debut season.

Yep, the arguments of LH being GOAT or not don’t reduce or lesson what a fantastic driver Max is. Bottas and Perez are both very capable drivers with great experience in F1. But they are nowhere in comparison.

Don’t write Perez off, he is four drives into a new team set up completely for another driver. He will improve imo

I get the impression that Lewis is bloody loving being up against a driver who can challenge him, unlike Bottas who might have written his exit strategy with the the way he held Lewis up

George Russell, barely any F1 experience let alone in a new team drove the wheels off a Merc in a single Grand Prix. Perez may need some time, but as with his time at McClaren, things don’t look good at this point.

Not a big Russell fan myself, we’ll see but he hasn’t impressed me at Williams at all.

Anyone who doubts F1 is a team sport and that Hamilton is a god is massively deluded after that.

As a side note let's hope the FIA start putting some points on Mazepin's licence. The bloke shouldn't even be driving a Volvo and is the second most unpleasant individual on the planet after his country's president.

Regardless, point is he jumped in a new car and drove it really fast. Perez has 194 grand prixs under his belt, he should be able to jump in a fast car and drive it fast.

I think you’ll find Russell has had quite a bit of time driving a Mercedes? I may be wrong but that’s what I thought. Red Bull is new to Perez in every respect, he also has massive pressure, Russell didn’t

Anyway I know nothing, it’s just an opinion

He needs to learn to shut his oversized gob and remember that stupidly dangerous ‘racing’ will get someone killed.

Yup.

He lost a position for Lewis early on in the race and basically ruined Lando's weekend by being a selfish, inexperienced, Dad-funded idiot. But one day he's going to ruin much more than that.

Talking of which, Lando, as much as I love him, deserved his black and white flag today. That move wasn't great either.

The Sky F1 team talk about an aircraft crash. A car taking off, it can be caused by a late and slight adjustment by an idiot being overtaken. They’re fatal.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix this weekend is on BBC Sports website. Do I get this using the red button on BBC 1?

I have cancelled my Sky Sports Now TV subscription now the PL season has finished and if I can get away without paying for a weekend pass to watch the GP, that would be fine

Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of Schumacher's win at Barcelona

In the pouring rain, his first of many for Ferrari

One of the best drives I've ever seen in 40 years of watching F1

Regardless, point is he jumped in a new car and drove it really fast. Perez has 194 grand prixs under his belt, he should be able to jump in a fast car and drive it fast.

I suspect it's a little different this year. Apart from anything else, the 2021 tyres have altered how the front end behaves (more prone to understeer), and at the back the changes to the car floor has also had an impact. Add to that that this season had the shortest pre-season testing ever for F1, and you're suddenly asking those drivers to learn their cars over the race weekend. You can see it with all the drivers who've changed teams for this season, to varying extent:

- Ricciardo is really struggling to get on top of the peculiarities of the McLaren.
- Perez hasn't yet nailed the Red Bull, in particular in Qually (his race pace hasn't been as bad).
- Vettel at Aston has struggled to impress against Stroll with exception of Monaco.
- Can add Alonso to the mix, he's clearly taken time to get to grips with the Alpine.
- Sainz at Ferrari has probably done the best of this group, but even he's generally not been as quick as expected with the exception of Monaco where he really impressed.
- Hard to say with the Haas boys as their both new, but given the number of spins and crashes it's probably fair to assume they're struggling to get on top of the car.

So back to the Perez / Russell comparison: last year - Russell was jumping out of a car that was pretty rubbish and into the WCC car, a car known to be without too many "diva" characteristics. His benchmark was Bottas (as opposed to Verstappen), and you could see a clear progression through the weekend with Russel starting out struggling to adapt and then gradually coming into it. By the end of Q3 he was there-ish with Bottas. On race day he nailed the start and proceeded to put Bottas in the shade without dominating him the way Hamilton normally does. But even after the race, Russell still talked about how he wasn't yet fully at home in the car: in particular on the entry to turn 1, but at various other points on the circuit as well he felt he had more time to make and he'd only achieve that with more time in the car.

However ... I do agree that Russell looks to me to be the real deal. He's a better driver than Perez, and definitely better than Bottas. Jury out on whether he can mix it with Hamilton and Verstappen if given the chance.

Also remains to be seen how all of the drivers adapt to the new cars next season. I suspect there's going to be a big shake up with more shocks along the lines of Ricciardo's struggles with the Mclaren.

No video. Only radio commentary and online interactives.

Video options are either Sky/NOW (if you want to watch live) or Channel 4 (extended highlights on a time delay). Or you can hunt down some "other methods" if you are that way inclined.
