I’m not sure the USA deserves a circuit. They prefer their driving round in circles circuits

To be fair, the US has some fantastic non-oval circuits. Used to watch a lot of the CART series back in the early-mid 90's, some of the tracks they raced on would easily find a place in an F1 calendar for me.

Laguna Seca, and Lime Rock are pretty good ;-)

MArlboro was good . . . in the 60's!

Come come, now. They drive in OVALS so they have to turn their steering wheels LEFT A BIT AND STRAIGHT. Also NASCAR drivers have to cope with a MANUAL gearbox with 4 (FOUR (4)) gears.

HOW MANY! ( some of them used to be 3 on a tree as opposed to 4 on the floor.

I thought they steered a bit right on the straights and straight ahead in the turn?

The rubbish thing is we went to some really great old style tracks this year which produced great races (Mugello, Portimão, Imola), a real shame we can't do more of them and ditch the likes of Russia

If you were going to guess, why would you say Russia, (and Bahrain etc) are getting the races and the other ones you mentioned aren't?

Clue, the answer isn't to do with overtaking potential!!

Portimao is on the Historic racing calendar and evertyone loves it. Not been myself, not an affordable weekend! Dijon is another one, a blinding circuit. Have done that.

LUK is Lukoil, I've worked for them in the distant past. In Romania. Persuasive indeed. . . . machine guns in the boot of the car.

Very much looking forward to seeing how McLaren and in particular Ricciardo do next year.

McLaren I think overall had a marginally better car than Renault this year, with the same engine. They've switching to Mercedes for next season, that'll give the package a boost IMO. And then you add Ricciardo to the mix, who I absolutely believe is a better driver than Sainz. I reckon once he has a few races under his belt, Ricciardo in a Merc powered McLaren could be the pick of midfield pack behind the Merc and Red Bull (possibly even ahead of one RB, depending on who they sit in that #2 seat).

I agree, but in theie day there were some right w****rs that used to drive them, I had an escort mk1 estate and most of the Mexico boys struggled to keep up.

Paul Ricard (Le Castellet France) is in the middle of nowhere and is the most garish track on the circuit, not a fan

Over course it should have been Mercedes straight after all the fast Merc engine loves them.

I wonder if he will attempt to sue Silverstone in a few years when they look to swap the name to Russell or Norris.

I concur, have never owned an Escort, its a special world. . Old Ford world is littered with everything I dislike.

When I mentioned Mexico's I was thinking of this . . . . And they did some other similar races I think.

Both preferably. Modern F1 cars are not proper racing cars, for proper race circuits. Constant Aero development and HT circuits have taken it elsewhere.

most of the old racing circuits have survived, a few have been lost to 'safety' and closed, which is sad, in a few instances they've been bastardised/ruined for modern F1. Sillystone and Spa are classic examples. Although both still retain most of their appeal.

One of the best weekends we had was back in 2004, before it got shut, did a 1 hour race on a street circuit in Chimay. Gravelly crap paddock, no proper pit lane, armco through woods, past houses, a few T junctions, real old school, like a mini LeMans . . . . Massive marquee erected inside the circuit, post race activities, food and bands, all fuelld by the local brew. Fantastic weekend.

Chimay was better known for bike racing, and being dangerous. Why it stopped comparatively slow old cars racing is anyones guess. Races had been held there since 1929, long before SIllystone was invented!

Danny Ric and Lando in a Mercedes powered McLaren I hope will be great to watch. I really was hoping they would win that battle with Renault and Racing Point. The works Merc with or without Lewis will take some beating, I’d LOVE to see Max and another in that car, a real tussle like Nico and Lewis a few years back. Bottas is toast after 2021 no mater what.

IIRC there's a more 'normal' wide line through the corkscrew that an F1 car could take. CART used to race there without issue. Wouldn't leave much room for correcting an error, but IMO that's a good thing.

Also: very credible rumour going round that Perez has the 2nd RBR seat, with Albon stepping back to reserve driver.
