Yes thanks you're right it was aek at home not marseille.
Yup, all seems to have started towards the middle/end of September...

AEK at home was 21 September - looks like he was sent home ill?

Bournemouth 24 September - Ferguson started the match, but was withdrawn at half time (feeling unwell).

He then started the next match against Villa on 30 September, but was again withdrawn at half time. Then played 60 against Liverpool on 8 October.

My opinion is that Ferguson is more valuable to the club than the manager. A young striker with bags of potential vs some 31 year old who may not see the end of next season. Anyone of sane mind knows selling him is going to be a monumental error of judgement.
IF he’s fit, get him loaned out to a championship club for 4 months where he can get guaranteed minutes and back to scoring goals. Then see where we are all at in the summer.

But if he refuses to play Ferguson, for whatever reason, it kind of forces the club’s hand if the player and agent start making waves. Not suggesting this is happening it’s just a thought on what you correctly say. If there was a rift between player and manager it would also explain the Ferguson that we have seen on the pitch this season, maybe.

But then again, he hasn’t looked any more effective for Ireland either.

It IS a strange one
Agreed. Personally I think he needs a loan but we absolutely should not think about selling. He's on a long contract and has plenty of time to pull his form round.

I think you're right on Enciso. For whatever reason, he's not cracked it here other than flashes of brilliance. My fervent hope is that if Ferguson goes on loan, it's not an Undav-style loan. As others have said, this looks like a Gyokeres moment, and nobody wants a repeat of that.
I think this 'Gyokores moment' is completely blown out of all proportion. He's 26 now, he's had 2 solid Championship seasons, and 2 in Portugal. We still don't know he can cut it in the PL or top European leagues yet, and what were we supposed to do, loan him out of 4 or 5 years while he developed?

I think comparing Evan and Gyokeres when we released him is unfair, Ferguson has to a certain extent proved himself at this level for a short period. Gyokeres had made almost 100 second tier apps and had yielded about 10 goals, there was no reason to keep him

"Proved himself to a certain extent"? Has he really?

Well, yes. Given where he was, it's highly unlikely that he'd be the player he is today had he stayed at the Amex. To me, I'm with you in as much as I think we did what we thought was right. That doesn't stop a large proportion of our fanbase banging on about it five years later.

What I would say though, is his two seasons in the Championship weren't "solid", he scored 40 goals between the ages of 22 and 24, and his two seasons in Portugal have yielded 77 goals in 83 games, including 11 in 16 in Europe, that also include 3 against Manchester City. Whether he cuts in in the PL depends on where he goes and the team he plays in, but I think you're understating his achievements thus far.

Anyway, it's besides the point. What I'm saying is that this situation has the potential to be a thread in 3 years wherein people moan relentlessly about letting go a £100m striker that has scored 50+ goals for Leverkusen.

Hes proved himself as much as Connoly proved himself.

‘Proved himself to a certain extent’ is a good description. Ferguson briefly thrived in the premier league. At least that’s what pundit after pundit said.

Unlike gyokeres who didn’t even do that well in the reserves.

He scored more goals than any other teenager in a calendar year, in the premier league.
I think that possibly included his goals against Grimsby, to be fair.

And besides, he has done nothing since for 18 months, so it's quite subjective to consider whether or not he's proved himself. Certainly not as clear cut as the case of Aaron Connolly anyway.
