Was never at the Brighton Centre

This. Was at the Dome. Might be wrong, but don't think there's even so much as a plaque to commemorate ABBA's 1974 triumph. Seems a bit of a no-brainer to hold it in the same town near enohgh half a century later. Maybe hold it on the beach or at the Amex?

There is only one place in the area with capacity, The Amex.
The event is normally mid May right? They said on news night earlier the venue need to be available for 3 weeks before the night of the show so would rule it out. I don't think Brighton has a chance tbh.

crodonilson and Dave from The Ship are putting together a consortium to bring it to the Lyme Regis International Convention Centre (assuming Big Money Gala Bingo can be moved to the British Legion for the night). I understand that Polly and Giles have been lined up as joint hosts whilst Gujit will be updating the points totals in real time as the scores come in from juries right across Europe.

Would be open air mind.

Bit odd the BBC suggesting Brighton as a venue. You need hotel space for 2,000 delegates on top of that. No chance.

I think Glasgow would be a great choice.

I've got a good mate who absolutely loves Eurovision (travels to the host country for it and all sorts) and he has similarly said Brighton doesn't stand a chance simply because of the size of the venue needed and how long it's needed for.

I asked him why Australia and others were allowed to enter and his response was that "Eurovision" is because the event is put on by the European Broadcasting Union. That's where the "Euro" bit comes from not from anything to do with it being an event for European countries. Criteria for membership of the Union doesn't have "being in Europe" as a mandatory part of it - Egypt for example is a member. It's something to do with area of operation and being a public service broadcaster. eg. the BBC. There are other bodies that being a member of gets you into the EBU too I think (it was all too complicated for my tiny brain) and by their nature, most, if not all, are in geographic Europe.

In the context of Eurovision the EBU can and do invite other countries to get involved (and countries can ask) - but if they won they wouldn't be allowed to host. Under the terms of Australia's invite for example, which is only until 2023, if they won another country would host the following year. I'm surprised there's no entry from the US or perhaps Brazil, where there are big TV companies that are associate members of the EBU so presumably would have a reasonable chance of being accepted (also for the audience they'd bring).

Having a quick look down the list of EBU members eligible to compete I feel what's most missing from the event is an entry from Vatican City.
