On NSC for over two decades...
The fact that that was England's best performance in a piss-poor group shows how low the bar has been set.

I was more than a little concerned by the panicked reaction of Guehi the one time he was actually required to defend. Let's hope he is more composed against teams that are more aggressive in their offense.

I take it it was another poor display?

I've only seen the 3 minute highlights where it looked like there might have been a little bit more verve in the attacking areas. Were they the few flickers of light amongst the dark of another dross performance?
Where did they get three minutes from? The sad truth is, this a poorly coached squad that is now suffering a crisis of confidence and morale. The talent is there, it is just being misused at the moment. Even the great backing the team got in the second half could not lift them.

FFS can we stop being scared of losing and just go out and bloody play?

What annoys me is that we'll probably get bundled out of the euros in the next round by
a poor team and five weeks later all be banging on about how effing great the PL is; best
in the world, wonderful football from Man City's Foden and Stones; Kane kicks off in
Germany with a hat-trick and Bellingham scores in 9-0 drubbing of Barcelona.

It is, amazing what happens when the players are coached and given instruction
Agree about the energy but worthless if it can't be controlled and directed....

O I agree, but it's just another example of Southgate removing the positive attributes of a player so he fits in with his system of shite

What we will only whisper is that the premier league is really good but the managers therein are a bit shit.

the best of them travelled halfway across the world to play an exhibition game against Spurs and played the same turgid shite as Southgate.

It was always said that our players need improving in continental/international football, and they have.

Now surely we have to look at our crop of managers, we need to address the question of why English managers are so poor.

This was a player of 3/4 weeks ago was on an absolute high after winning the CL

You could see him flowing with confidence in the first game.

A week later he looks like a non league player

Southgate'ed
Southgate could turn a silk purse into a pigs ear

He was one penalty away from winning last time. How did he manage it then ? Fluke

He blew it.
Like now, we were the best team on paper, but playing against what must be the worse quality of opposition ever. Spain, Germany, Netherlands and Italy all were at the lowest ebb. France were misfiring as only the French can. We lost to an Italian team that failed to qualify for the WC.
it was typical Southgate. Get the lead and hang on for dear life rather than killing the game off, which played right into the Italians hands. He blew it and unless he gets his shit together it will happen again.

Do you mean in the tournament or in each of the games?

Could you please explain, if you can!, which of the third placed teams we play? I get the complications, but which of the 1 to 4 do we get? Does that make sense?
It's not based on how they finish in order 1-4, that's irrelevant. It's only determined by which four groups the teams going through come from.

If 3rd place from Group E and 3rd place from Group F both go through tonight (eliminating Hungary), the four teams through are CDEF and we play 3rd place from E.

If 3rd place from E go through with Hungary and 3rd place from F go out tonight, the four teams through are ACDE and we play 3rd place from D (Netherlands).

If 3rd place from E go out and 3rd place from F go through with Hungary tonight, the four teams are ACDF and we play 3rd from D (Netherlands).

It's nothing to do with where they finish or how they're ranked within those four going through.

It's just a list UEFA drew up for all 15 possible combinations of third placed teams going through:

If ABCD, x happens
If ABCE, y happens
etc etc.

It's a ridiculous situation caused by the new '6 groups of 4' format. That's UEFA for you.

After a lot of uncertainty it basically now boils down to: Hungary out, we play 3E - Hungary through, we play Netherlands.

What have you done to him Gareth ?

Watched in a bar in Dublin with RTE commentators.

Main commentator: Cole Palmer coming on who has had a great season

Ronnie Whelan: they all have till they put on an England shirt.

Southgate's team bonding karaoke song has been leaked in BBC Sport's comments section.

Hey Jude, don't make it bad
Take a through ball and pass it backwards,
Remember don't run on into attack,
Then you can start to make it better.
Hey Jude, don't be afraid.
Hold the ball up and shove it sideways
The minute you let Gareth under your skin,
Then you begin to make it safer.

Thanks, this is the best explanation I have read. Much better than some of the newpapers.

So many managers including DeZerbi would love to be able to select a side from that squad . May then let in a few goals on the break but we would score more. Southgate like Moyes only interested in result and with us 2 games from final he will feel job done. His defenders and midfielders priority is defending and not going forward like they do for there clubs. Foden and Bellingham 2 of worlds best no 10s but to play them both means Gordon cant play which would mean a more balenced attack which would get Kane into game more.
Of course want England to win but fact is with very few exceptions all PL games are more entertaining.to watch than England games.

He is obsessed with Kane up front on his own who gets so little service that he has to drop back into midfield, leaving no one in the box.
Rice plays centre back and just gets in the way. We need our midfielders further forward to give us half a chance of getting into the box. He’s got to go.
The goalie and back four are adequate, much as I’d love to see Dunky in there passing long and short balls forwards. Left back is a problem getting forwards as Shaw is never going to be fit enough to do an overlapping job.
I think he’s going to need to play the Newcastle lad and, as much as I hate to say it, the Palace midfielder who might just play without all the baggage the others are carrying.
As others have said, I just don’t understand how such good players can’t be moulded into a half decent team. I think Southgate will chuck it in at the end of this, win or lose, in time for the next poor sucker to take the poison chalice.
