Out of boredom I just had a little go on UEFA’s tournament predictor thingy (where you stick teams where you think they’ll finish in their group and then complete the knockout rounds). Obviously, the tournament won’t play out how I predicted and there will be some ‘lesser’ nations in the later stages at the expense of some of the expected big names, but it’s a sober reminder of how tough it’s going to be.

I assumed us winning the group, which left us with a route to the final of Portugal, Spain, Netherlands and Belgium. Not that I necessarily fear any of those teams in themselves, but the idea of having to do it four times in a row is pretty scary. Had we finished second, our route would have been Poland, France, Belgium, Netherlands - not a great deal easier.

That’s not to say we can’t do it, some one will and as the post above points out we are second favourites. We’re going to have to be absolutely immaculate though and with balls of steel not usually exhibited by England sides at major tournaments.

England is a nation full of punters, hence the prices provided by the bookies. England isn't actually 2nd favourites.

When is the last time England won the Euros? ???

Read again.

I said second favourites outside of the UK. I cited a non-UK site.

England are in no way, shape or form a dark horse!

For me it's between Us, France and a weirdly under-fancied Germany. You just know Werner would score a hatfull against us.

How long until the gutter press turns on the national team and digs up some historic scandal about a squad member? It’s normally the opening week from memory

A ‘friendly’ where the Austrian players so far see it as a royal rumble. No wonder Southgate is playing some players who aren’t even in the squad.

Grealish and Saka are embarrassing to watch. Both seem to spend more time rolling around on the floor than they do playing football.

Grealish dangling his leg out again.
He does get fouled but if he gets an injury when he's instigated contact himself then tough titty.
I detest the cheating tw@

Both have been kicked into next week

I agree on Grealish normally but it’s obvious the Austrians have just decided to boot him up in the air. Fantastic player though, can’t deny it.

Grealish has had a couple of kicks, he’s also dived a few times.

Standard.

Austria showing no interest whatsoever in actually playing a game of football. Dull.

"Good test" I know but it's so boring, far rather play a Spain or Italy, even if we lose we can have an actual game of ****ing football between two teams who want to play football.

The mighty Austria pressing hard and with numbers and we just don't have the ability to find the space they've vacated and get in behind them.
Come on ffs.

First game, key players out, but they look like they have absolutely no idea what they are being asked to do.
