Good point. As per usual, there was an unrealistic level of expectation and the misled idea that Russia and Croatia were inferior to us. The press played their part in that, the fans and also the FIFA rankings which happen to be hugely misleading.

I wasn't flaming you. :D

I suppose flamig was a harsh word to use. Sorry. You are right about the FIFA rankings though. They are a load of tosh. we aint the 9th/10th best team in the world on current form. Mexico should't be as high as they are. Grecce in the top 10 aswell!

Well done to Russia, they deserved it.

But how shit were Holland :( one of the worst performances by any team in the tournament so far. Apart from van der Sar and Sneijder, all the Dutch players were crap. van Perise was really poor compared to his other substitute appearances. All I can say is that we missed Arjen Robben :(

I think the Italians will win it now, so that'll be two tournaments where they've played shit and won in the end.

Italy and France made Holland look good period. Both Italy and France had a stinker at the start, and I am sure if they both went in to the Euro with a different mentality at the start things would be different.

Credit to Russia, they outplayed Holland, and this will rate as one of the best matches I have seen so far.

One guy at work said on the current performances that England could easily beat a lot of these teams, so why are they not here? Mentality? Do the England players think they are better than the rest of Europe?

England reputation and respect will only start growing once they start becoming consistent.

I think England started going wrong when Footballers, especially Beckham started letting us in to their stupid millionaire lifestyles and holding pathetic pre tournament parties instead of focusing on football, and confessing to the whole of the UK that "England are one of the best in the world".

Then on the top of this we had a new team called the WAGS, who in all honesty where a complete embarrassment to the whole of Europe. Instead of looking cool, they made us look cheap, on top of this they where Ugly. I would rather Cappello drop Beckham for good from now on, he just reminds us of the old times, and is just a show pony. As soon as you include Beckham you start bringing the bullshit back and the pathetic press attention outside of football.

I am so glad Cappello hates this shit.

I very much doubt this goes on in other countries?

So did I before the start of that game ...but I ended up shouting for Russia. What a fantastic performance.

And what's the betting a host of Premiership sides are on to Arshavin's agent in the morning?

Russia were brilliant, just as they were in their last game too.

As for Arshavin - there is a massive amount of cash in Russian football right now, and he is already reputed to be on £60k a week, so it might not be that easy to tempt him.

I was sitting on one of the main squares in Ghent in Belgium on Saturday night. About 15 bars there, and all of them were hopping, except the one which was decked out in orange where all the cloggies had gathered to watch the game. Apart from a 30-second roar when van Nistelrooy scored, you could hear a pin drop over there. I didn't need to watch the game to know what was happening.

Will you PLEASE take all that revolting-coloured bunting down now? It hurts my eyes.

Thanks.

Russia have been a different team since Arshavin came back. He'S BEEN FANTASTİCX.

But with Kolodin out it means one of the neanderthal brothers players and they are SLOW!!!!!! Spain will fancy that.

The Dutch can't handle pressure. Simple as that. Give them a group game or a friendly where where nothing really matters and they will dazzle with their footballing skills. Whisper in their ear that they are going home if they don't score, and all the self-doubts that are buried beneath a thin veneer of self-assured smugness start to well up and they fall to pieces.

Despite how it comes across sometimes. it is built into the Dutch national psyche that they are incapable of winning the big one (a bit like us really), and sooner or later this lack of deep-down self belief becomes their Achilles heel.
