Interesting interviews on LBC today with English political journalists based in Brussel, also with continental political writers.
Their take was that the EU is annoyed with AstraZeneca (an Anglo Swedish multinational), not the UK. But there’s much anger with von der Leyen who’s seen by her colleagues, MEP’s and individual governments as screwing up their entire procurement going back months. On the Eddie Mair show, one mentioned that in essence she’s now shunned, alone with her team on the 13th floor of the commission building.
On a positive note experts were of the opinion that there won’t be an EU export ban, several countries such as Ireland, Belgium and France are vehemently against that. Instead the EU is working behind the scenes with the UK and pharmas across the globe to massively increase supply into the EU.
The final hurdle will be to beat vaccine hesitancy in many EU nations.
