Ethnic Minorities and CCTV

Have never seen the problem with security cameras myself. If someone is bored enough to track my movements with them (I'm not sure how feasible this is, but it seems to be of concern to some people) let them, as far as I'm concerned. I have nothing to hide.

It is totally possible to track any vehicle apparently. I have a friend in some "security" part of Met Police, and he was telling me that people are tracked with vehicle recognition and mobile phones on very long journeys if they are under observation. I cannot say I really understood the mechanics of it all, but I think that a car they want to track is given a "tag" and it is then tracked by a variety of methods working together. I believe the same applies to people on foot. As you say, those of us with nothing to hide should have no concerns.

It strikes me that the cameras being turned off are exactly those which should be being monitored 24/7!

Lets wait and see what happens if those objecting to the CCTV cameras ever become victims of crime in that area? for example - a mugging, hit and run driver or abduction

The lack of CCTV coverage could mean that the perpetrator is never caught but had there been CCTV, they may have been.

Bet they would complain about the Police not doing enough to prevent it or to catch the person responsible.

Or maybe a racist attack on their mosque? There would be whinging do-gooders all over breakfast TV the next day moaning about how the police were not up to their jobs, and were only interested in middle-class white areas etc. :nono:

So you would have no problem with a government sponsered camera in your bedroom? Just in case someone trys to break in?

There'd be no need for these cameras if we weren't blowing up muslims in iraq and afghanistan.

Are we even in Iraq anymore? I know the US has half the amount of forces there than 5 years ago and that they will be leaving this year.

So, they should stop blowing themselves up in Iraq.

Of course I would, but as far as I can see there's no proposition to insert cameras into private properties? There is a line but if cameras are on public property, monitoring public areas, I don't have a problem with them.

I understand that. The point I was trying to make was the statement "If you have nothing to hide" is a ridiculas one!

I really did have to be quite careful when thinking up the thread title.

cctvs cost lots of money and are put in place as a crime solving/prevention measure, simple as that, if THINGS weren't the way they are they wouldn't be required.......get OVER it.

Simply putting up CCTV isn't enough. A friend, who works for West Midlands Police told me recently that there aren't enough trained CCTV operators to monitor all of the cameras in Wolverhampton. Anyone can sit there and watch some screens, but apparently it takes quite a talent and a fair bit of training to smoothly manouvre the cameras in order to get usable footage.

Having all these cameras in asian only areas only further alienates that community painting every asian as a potential terrorist.
Tough shit.

So on that thinking, having CCTV in football grounds, paints every football fan as football hooligans?

So having CCTV in every shop, paints every shopper as a shoplifter?

No, of course it doesn't, so why would having cameras in Asian only areas paint every asian as a potentil terrorist?

How in anyway are cameras crime preventative? If you're gonna beat someone up you're not gonna look up and say, 'oh a camera, could you just move over here so i can beat you here where there isn't a camera'. If someone is going to commit a crime, a camera is not going to change their mind.
