I see the Swedish swordsman is in the news again. Banging some bint at the FA...that he denied previously.

Now as far as I'm concerned he can shag whoever he wants, that's his business. But...he should f*** off to Sweden & we should get a manager who understands the words "Attack" & "Motivation."

The players don't want him to go 'cos with him as boss they're in the comfort zone.

Shame Mickey can't take over; they'd wonder what's hit 'em!

He probably should go - bar that 5-0 humping of Germany (which is not that special these days...) he's not done much at all with england.
But seeing as the FA were so goddamn hell bent on signing him up before the championships, it would cost a small fortune to terminate the contract...

When did we beat Germany 5-0????

Good point, especially the second bit about his contract.

I take a very laid-back approach to England, not really being that bothered apart from the big games, but it seems that Eriksson comes with too much baggage and also isn't really that much of a great coach. Sorry, I'm sure he's a superb coach but not a very good manager.

f*** him off and get that bloke who's manager of Portugal in.

I couldn't give a toss about Erikssons private life. If he wants to be up to his nuts in Nancy, or some tart from the FA, so what. Completely irrelevent to his running of the England team.

I want him OUT of the England job because he has the balls of a doormouse and couldn't motivate a dog to hump a leg. I've seen more animation in a pork chop. We need a coach who can think on his feet, react and make changes. If the fella can't make 11 subs at half time then he hasn't got a scooby.

Get Eriksson out, and bring someone in who actually gives a toss.

Get in Easy 10!

Can you imagine him getting the players gee'd up before a game? I'd want to get my napper down after a talk from him & his geriatric sidekick!

We need a motivator especially now that all our characters in the dressing room have finished playing. Adams, Pearce, Robson etc.
You'd walk over burning coals for them!

I won't even start on his tactics & substitutions!

Sven will unfortunately not leave because he's on a fortune and the FA will not kick him out because we can't afford to because of the stupidity of giving him the biggest contract in International football, with about 4 years to run on it.

Personal life? Yeah I care, because I hope he does something so crass and stupid that we can sack him for gross misconduct, as that's the only way we can afford to ditch the useless arse.

I just cannot see why anyone rates the fella. What has he done to make us believe he's a great manager? I'm sorry but it's just the worst most disgusting example of our current piss-our-pants obsession with everything foreign. It's as if the whole 'oh aren't the British crap at everything' brigade have got so far out of hand that we believe anything foreign MUST be better. Whether it be two-bob players or dodgy managers, if they have an exotic name or accent we believe they are great.

Smudge inadvertantly makes the point when he says "shame Micky can't take over." Why exactly can't he take over? Same goes for Big Sam or any other English manager. They won't get the BIG jobs in this country and therefore won't be taken seriously as candidates for England.

Sven has got as good a set of players as I've known and England manager have, and he is just wasting it. He has no passion, no drive, no ability to change tactics, and refusal to accept anything but trying to defend leads, he will NOT drop players from his inner sactum, and will likewise refuse to bring in players who are NOT part of that exclusive club England.

I wouldn't mind if we'd gone down fighting to Brazil and Portugal, but instead we played the wrong tactics, attempted to sit on leads, and just could initiate any chan ge in formation or tactics when the game called for it.

Sven is not what he's cracked up to be, and I pray that when he gets spotted on Roman's yacht it is because there is a job waiting for him at the Bridge. Please quit Sven, as you are rubbish but we cannot afford to sack you.

Remembering that the FA did f.a. when we needed them to step in, I can only agree that they have never had a clue and couldn't run a tiddleywink match let alone English football.

Sven has proved nothing except .....he has acheived nothing. Right, a 1-5 drubbing of Germany looks ordinary when you realise they are tactically inept and devoid of talent. Their squareness and cold logical approach is easy to overturn in today's game, and they've been turned over by lesser sides since us.

Sven's motivation skills are zero, and he cannot see what is missing when we lose our desire and passion (like vs Brazil, where Joe Cole would at least have provided more intent and interest to the rest of the team) or our midfield (like when Rooney went off vs Portugal and with him went our whole approach beyond our own area for a whole friggin hour+ of football).

He's looking increasingly like a dull overpaid nob with a notepad, and I'd rather see him gone BEFORE he proves completely and obviously inneffective.

Sven, please insult the handicapped or shag Lady Camilla, soon so we can all  from Newcastle dockside at the Goteborg-bound ferry

I can't believe people are wanting the old chest beating tea cup throwing 'motivators' of old again. They were SHIT and they got us nowhere. Sven hasn't won us anything but apart from Alf Ramsey who has? As far as I'm concerned his record is not that bad at all

Listen to you lot saying oh that 5-1 victory doesn't seem so great now....bollocks. Beating Germany away from home scoring 5 goals....now you think anyone could do it? Some great performances against Turkey, 2 qualifying groups topped and two Quarter Finals reached. I reckon he deserves at least one more go to see if he can take us those two games more.

Some of you seem to be under the impression that England are always favourites to win major competitions and its all cos of Sven we don't.

Joe Cole on? What the hell has he EVER done apart from being talked up as our greatest prospect for years...and then doing feck all.

After the joke of Euro 2000 I think Sven has given us a decent team to be proud of.

Very realistic assesment RW. The 'old chest beating tea cup throwing motivators' got us nowhere before, and I would not like to see English football go back down that dinasour route.

Good post. Agree with every word.

Not one England manager since Ramsey has reached two successive quarter finals.

RW is right. England are not world-beaters and never have been (1966 aside), we're punching above our weight now. Not by much, but we're better than we were.

Who are these English managers that could replace Sven? Adams? Curbishley? Allardyce? You're having a laugh. McClaren is the only real possibility but I'm not sure that he'd do any better.

IMHO he should go, he is a liar and cannot be honest!! What does this say to the England team, he is supposed to lead by example.

And if anyone says "But he has got us to the quarters twice!" My answer is ..." and what did we win?" F*** ALL is what!!

Time to get a no-nonsence manager in and stop treating the Beckhams, Rooney's, Scholes as the team saviours and treat the team as one.

If one of the so-called superstars is playing crap regardless of who they are, sub em!!

Not sure about Mclaren as the next manager but imho "O'neil" is obvious 1st choice!!

I believe Bobby Robson got to a quater final and a semi final in two successive world cups!

I believe Greece won Euro 2004, are they world beaters?

I don't think so, but they have a manager who has tactical nous & is able to motivate & give his players some belief in their ability.

It was there for the taking & the Swede failed, time to go.

So he did, but that's not what I said. Robson didn't get us to two successive quarter finals - we didn't get out of the group stage at the 1988 European Championships, in fact I don't think we won a match.

exactly smudge... need a motivator and tactical brain ..dont think sven has these in abundance ... would like to see Mclaren given the chance .. perhaps our so called stars would then play and not be in the sven comfort zone

And how many times have England won a tournament or even got to the final? Apart from 1966 (when we had home advantage) we haven't. - and that's in 70 years of World Cups and 40 years of European championships.

Our record outside home is, before Sven, one semi and three quarter finals; it's not terrible but we're a long way from being worldbeaters.

Of course, we want to win tournaments but we haven't got the team to do it - no matter who the manager is. Sven has achieved more than any manager since Sir Alf and let's hope he can build on it; maybe a semi next.

It's a bit like complaining at McGhee if he doesn't take us to the play-offs this season. We have modest expectations (or rather, should have) and Eriksson has more than met them.

Comparisons with Greece are irrelevant. The whole country was focused on doing well, the coach, the players and the administration. Here the FA plays second fiddle to the Premiership so the manager can't even play a full team for friendlies and the players treat international championships as a bit of a distraction. No coach can alter that. I fear that for England to win a tournament there would need to be a complete change of emphasis from the FA...and it ain't going to happen.

I think that Sven is the best that we can hope for at the moment.
