I believe Greece won Euro 2004, are they world beaters?

I don't think so, but they have a manager who has tactical nous & is able to motivate & give his players some belief in their ability.

It was there for the taking & the Swede failed, time to go.

Absolutely. Greece won it because they were well prepared, well managed, went into the games with a plan and were able to adapt to the circumstances.

Afterwards we start complaining about levels of fitness etc. Mickey Adams said on a end of season video, "I knew the players were fit and well prepared because that's my job." He wasn't making a big thing of it, he was stating a fact. Sven doesn't appear to feel the same or if he does, then he knows he's let us down. Allowing the captain to blame his club for his lack of fitness was an embarrassment. Oh, if only you had enough money for a personal trainer David!

"Failure to prepare is preparing to fail." was another gem from MA which again sums up the summer campaign. We had no plan B in games, looked like we hadn't practised defending set pieces, and the penalties needed a bit more work. Brazil showed last night what practising them can do for you.

Sven, you have let us down TWICE. No other manager of a top team has survived failure in this tournament, why should you?

Please go.

Something that not many people have commented on is this. Surely, his behaviour in his personal life must have affected his ability to do his job (even if only to a small degree). I refer to his behaviour in courting other jobs AND his chasing of women whilst trying to conceal the fact from his long-term partner. Both display a disregard towards commitment of any kind.

Surely the situation with other women and Nancy MUST have taken affected his thinking during Euro 2004. Anyone behaving like that would worry about being caught, it must have had an effect.

The bloke is unprofessional in every sense. Either with or away from the England team. Poor manager. Shameless individual.

My first thought on the Sven subject was that he should remain in the job.

He's been stupid, the equivalent of nobbing a secretary at the office Xmas party whilst drunk, but surely not enough to lose his job over.

But when you think that Palios nobbed her first and Palios is the one saying whether Sven goes or stays the issue gets clouded.

Potentially, Palios could be pissed off that Sven shagged his bird and therefore sack him on some other pretext. Or because they're both playing away from home they could keep it all shtum.

On balance I think Sven should stay because the issue has not, as yet, affected his standing in the dressing room with the players. But if he carries on like this it soon will.

It should affect his standing. Imagine if you find out your boss has had an affair with a secretary who has already had an affair with his boss!

At the end of the day you would not get the boot for shagging someone in your office, but you would if you start making comments to the disabled people in your office that it was their fault they were disabled due to something that they had done in a former life.

So why should Sven go?
In two of my employments I have known of managers getting the boot for an office affair.

I think it comes down to a matter of trust. You have to respect your manager, and trust is part of that. If the managers turns out to be a cheat, then some part of that trust is broken, and so is the repsect.

Damn right same at a company i used to work for.

What he has done is not Gross Misconduct and so you have to pay him off.

You keep going on about getting rid of him, but if he goes they will appoint another foreign coach as non of the English options are up to it. Do not bother listing McLaren, he is a good coach, but like Brian Kidd is hardly a manager that has set the world alight.

I think the secretary should get the boot. Then come round to my place. Mmmm, sloppy thirds.

Sven has done nothing more than any other underacheiver, so that makes him another underacheiver, and by now a proven one.

Joe Cole may not be a genius, but he had the gutty example the game BEGGED for against a poor Brazil when we really could and SHOULD have got to the WC final. The team say they were overawed? Then Sven must've had summat to do with it, and could've done summat to resolve it by snapping them out of their awed stupor.
It was as clear as day, but Sven proved as dim as Keegan was.
Over an HOUR with no midfield strength against Portugal? Come the fuq ON Eriksson, DO something you gormless lobotomised spectator !!

There's little doubt in my mind, we have had the players to win tournaments, whereas the likes of Italy Germany France and Spain rightly got clobbered out of them.
The man has failed, with the one of the better squads ever to represent our country.

Sven,please bugger off
:dunce: or :shootself

??

France, including one of the best footballers EVER and then the likes of Viera, Henry, Trezeguet etc deserved to get clobbered out but we had the players to win it? I agree with a fairly decent team, but I think Sven is the man responsible for a failry high level of consistency we have at the moment.

He deserves another tournament I think. Couldn't give a toss who he shagged.

That's the way I see it AP, we had France stumped until the last few moments of the match - a tactical cave-in to even be playing a SEMI-defensive game and with Heskey brought on as a sub by Eriksson.

Additional thought brings me to mention Beckham's penalty against his old team-mate in goal - a glaring risk that proved to be a real mistake, whoever made the decision. Granted it could have gone either way - but it didn't. (Becks is obviously no Shearer from the spot these days!)

Rooney was as good as Zidane in that tournament, and although I agree that Henry is imperious as an individual - he did very little when surrounded by those French internationals and France in no way controlled any game I saw them play in the last 2 years (last WC and this European Cup).

Nope, I am convinced of England's potential under the right management - which, as hard as he tries - hasn't been Sven.
