If we hadn't have batted like complete tossers last night we might have even chased that. The pitch held up well.

Brilliant effort from Ali and Anderson but we can't lie this is an awful result,

Agreed, Ali looks a prospect.
I think the very poor effort from our bowlers on day 4 plus a great innings from Matthews and yet another pathetic batting display from out top 5 batsmen. How many times do we see total capitulation from our batsmen when a wicket falls -then another--then another-then another

Two great test matches. A shame the authorities only saw fit to create a two test series.

Top innings from Moeen and top blocking from Jimmy.

It's basically every other test nation apart from Australia we have to fight to get test matches. None of them want them, they all one ODI's and T20's. Even South Africa play considerably less test matches than we do.

Good old Corinthian spirit.

Whereas the Aussies at all sports, and modern top pro sportsmen/teams/managers, all go by Winning is everything, second is nowhere.

Sri Lanka have repeatedly been beaten in test series by Australia, Windies, South Africa and India.

But not by England in home conditions and wickets prepared for us. The ECB will be looking at this come the autumn.

I see Moores is considering resting Broad and Anderson. He should consider resting Cook too.

Go into the India series with nothing to lose, picking a young inexperienced side who won't be chastined by defeat because the team is so fresh, but have everything to gain by showing what they can do.

Allow Cook to play a sizeable chunk of county games without any real pressure to rediscover his joy of occupying the crease. Clear his mind of everything other than his batting.

Now is the moment for Moores to show leadership, now is the moment to take a completely fresh experimental approach, hopefully identifying some further new prospects, and at the same time resting some experienced players ideally bringing them back with clear heads.

Ballance, Robson, Root, Plunkett, Ali, and Jordan have all shown they can come in and play. With Bell and Prior playing reasonably well, lets consider 3 replacements.
