I tghink people are being unduly harsh.....we had the spine of the side missing. lampard, Terry, Ashley and Jo Cole

All in all, Mexico looked a decent side and we won 3-1. I can remember when we would have struggled to beat sides liker that.

All in all good effort and no injuries...job done

If we didn't have Wayne Rooney playing for us I would agree with you. But we do. So I don't. There is nothing stopping him from being the best player in the whole tournament.
I agree that he could be the player of the tournament, especially as he will be a bit more fresh because Man Utd weren't involved in the Cup Final or Champs League final. What worries me is that I can't see Rooney getting the ball in dangerous areas against the really top class sides (Brazil and Spain).

All very true, but just don't expect us to do better than the semis at best, because on yesterday's evidence we are MILES behind Spain.

I am not sure if Brazil play a game which seeks to close down threatening opposition players. They have such arrogance that they think that it matters not and they will win the game by imposition of their own attacking threat. Anyhow I think that the likes of Lurkio and Danny Alves are vastly overrated.

As for Espagna we may not get the ball off them for the entire game (depressed).

Brazil- not any more.

Dunga has made them efficient and well organisedand the at with two holding midfielders.

This.

Spain struggled with a 3-2 win against Macedonia not too long ago, and that was with a full strength team.

I'll happily take 3-1 against a team like Mexico, with a large part of our team missing, and no injuries suffered.

Lineker had it right on Jonathon Woss - He said that Spain and Brazil are in the Premiership; Italy, Germany, Holland, Argentina, Australia, Ivory Coast, England and France are in the Championship, the rest are in the First and Second division. the only way a team will win this apart from teh top two is for Brazil and Spain play each other and then someone get lucky in the final.

I think the problem is Spain and Brazil are so much better than the rest of us.

Still doesn't stop us dreaming.

Spain are not sure that Brazil are that much better..

Yes but the last time we played Spain, they made us look like an amateur side.

they are going to be a very difficult side to beat this year

My dark horses are Ivory Coast. Sometime soon an African side is going to be sucessful and I think they have the players to be so.

We are miles behind Spain on any evidence. You're right that semi's are probably our best realistic target, and there would be no shame in that at all. It would be a good achievement. It won't satisfy the all-or-nothing mong-hordes in this country though, sadly.

That would be an interesting gam,e were we to play them. I wonder what JT's reaction would be to Drogba rolling around following the mere hint of a shoulder to shoulder.
