I get the feeling Blatter is back tracking on stepping down only because whoever takes over will uncover a catalogue of dodgy deals done under his reign ???

Sounds like he may not get in again, UEFA are outspoken in their opposition to this happening. I think they've even asked their delegates not to clap him when SB announces his candidacy. Get him out and show us all what's been happening - not that
I think that will happen

I really don't know why UEFA don't just threaten to split from FIFA if something doesn't get done about the corruption. After all, FIFA would be nothing without Europe. The richest leagues, premier competitions, the worlds best players and the majority of the power houses in the world game - I'm getting pretty miffed I can tell you.

This part is particularly damning I think:

Mawhinney wrote that when the England bid team arrived in Zurich for the vote in 2010, they were told that only three of the 22 Exco members had even read the bid document, which had cost £5m-£6m to produce.

"We were told the written bid document, and the finding of the inspection delegation who came to look at our facilities, would be the main basis on which a decision was made," Mawhinney said.

In fact, the most unfavourable inspection report was the one for Qatar, classifying as "high risk" hosting the tournament there in the summer, but the Exco chose Qatar for 2022.

"Decisions appear to have been made on a different basis from what we were promised," Mawhinney said. "I would like to know on what basis the decision was made."
