A different kind of pasty
Bobby Z, get Bobby Z in there
It's not saying that much when we have a manager who picks Wes Brown ahead of Jamie Carragher.

But Carragher doesn't want to play anymore.

I agree that Brown being in there is stupid. However Bent I would at present not have in the squad, but then he picks Defoe who cannot get a start for Spurs.
I can honestly say without any bias that I believe he would be a better option than Smith. As would Matt Derbyshire. And anyone really.Bobby Z, get Bobby Z in there
Good shout old boy.As would Matt Derbyshire.
I don't think any player who can't get in his club side regularly should be in the squad. However I think Bent has done enough to earn his place.
I would have him over Smith anyday. As I would Nugent or Walcott.
As UB rightly argues, Owen deserves his place as he has delivered time and again, I don't see why there is any argument on that point.
A lot of it is to do with my outlook on what direction the England team should be going in. I'm a maverick you see, a lone wolf, a renegade if you will.

Well lets see how he does being rotated or on the bench at Spurs.
Still doubt he is an international striker, but there is still time for him.
I'm not even saying he is an international striker, just deserves a bit more of a chance. I don't think the rotation will help him though.
What direction do you envisage oh lone wolf? 1 -0 defeats?
How very droll Lokki.
I just feel a big cull is needed. I would get rid of anyone over 30, apart from G.Neville, and look to bring in a new era. I would then start playing younger players and giving U21 prospects places in the squad. All of this would be working towards 2010 and 2012. I would write off the Euros in 08 (of course if we get there that's a bonus) and just concentrate on building a side that are comfortable with each other and that means picking young players who will be blossoming in about 3-5 years team, not just as individuals but as a team.
Well Crouch is suspended for Israel so we need to find someone to partner Owen. Hopefully Ashton can show some form...If he is going to get a chance it will be in this friendly, but honestly I cannot see him doing much.
McLaren is not going to experiment in the qualifiers, so it is likely to be Owen and Crouch playing in those, well you would hope so.
But Owen is 27.
Sort of works, but didn't Sven have exactly the same game plan? That worked out well.
