According to The Torygraph this morning, he will play for Liverpool against Chelsea with painkilling injections, and then be withdrawn from the England squad by Benitez to rest his toe.

Thats exactly what i though, and what was reported everywhere bu obviously McClaren has other ideas.

Well that's it UB, you have certainly shown me the error of my ways.

Your rigorous explaination of Owen scored a goal and I should leave the thread has left me stumped.

Alan Smith
Jermain Defoe
Andy Johnson

I would have preferred Emile Heskey to ANY of these three pointless inidviduals.

Well Defoe, Bent and Johnson managed near to sod all for the 10 months Owen was out.

Owen comes back for the game in Estonia, not fully fit, gets presented with a chance and takes it. You see he is in the side to score goals.

At least he can score goals. But carry on and fill the team with sub standard Premiership journymen and youngsters.

Owen is a proven scorer at world class level, as his goals for his country and Madrid prove. If Bent, Ashton and Aghbonlahor are the alternatives, then we are in a sorry state. You only have to look at Bent's performance on Tuesday to agree with that.

Why cant Joleon Lescott get in the squad? Had a cracking season last year and has hit the ground running this year, how Wes Brown is supposedly better than Lescott puzzles me.

I guess he is in as a back up RB, with RIchards starting

I'm not filling it with anyone, I have no say in the matter.

It was amazing that a world class defence such as Estonia's gave Owen such room. Good knows how he managed to score that.

Haven't thought Defoe was good enough for England for a while, Bent has two caps and Johnson has been played on the right for most of his England career. I just think they deserve chances is all.

Owen, even half fit, is twice the striker of most of them. He neesd games to get rid of ring rust.

Agree that Ashton should be in but he's got more fitness problems that Owen at the moment. Agbonlahor won't be picked for the same reason Bentley hasn't been.

But they have had chances whilst Owen has been out and not taken them. Owen comes back and scores, which is his job.

Owen has played 82 games and scored 37 goals. Nobody else in the squad gets near that. Defoe has 24 caps and 3 goals, Smith 17 caps and one goal and neither Bent nor Johnson have scored.

Thats all great but I'm gonna base my opinions on more than stats or I would have Lineker up front.
