So now we’re out of both cups are you happy with mid table ?
Yeah - very happy with the season.

I've seen some great football
Watched my team play and beat Ajax twice.
Saw us qualify at the top of our group with a fantastic last minute win against Marseille.
Watched us smash Palace at home.

All of this with a young squad and an awful run of injuries to our highest performing players.

Mid-table will more than do, for me this season.

What’s his age got to do with it ?!
If he’s not mature enough he shouldn’t play. He looked clueless last night.
Once again, I think it's ESSENTIAL to stress that you 'don’t like to single out a player'. Especially not by making the same point multiple times on a single thread :lolol:

How did you feel when Tony said our ambition was to be a top ten club a couple of years ago ? Did you send an email complaining?
That was a couple of years ago. We’ve/I have moved on. Do you want to be mid table every year ? Would you be happy with that ? Be honest .

Where we are now is fine - an average of mid-table, with occasional (like last season) better seasons. Yes, absolutely with our relative resources. Two years is NOTHING. You sound very impatient.

As well as being not fit enough yet, that system didn’t do Enciso or Buonanotte any favours. They both looked a bit lost or getting in each others way.

Buonanotte is looking so good in the central 10 role behind the striker, I think we need to persist with him there and gradually bring Enciso in playing on the left, especially while Mitoma is not there.

Like you, I thought that formation was all over the show tonight. Would like us to go back to basics next week with a proper back four of Veltman, Dunk, Van Hecke and Estupinan. Lamptey and Adingra on the wings with Buonanotte ahead of Gross and Gilmour and Welbeck up front. In fact I’d be tempted to bring in Baleba instead of Gilmour though as we looked so lightweight in the middle against their quality CM.
Baleba and Gilmour with Gross playing on the right or number 10, or Baleba and Gross with Gilmour rested. If RDZ really does rate Baleba then, surely, it's time to give him a good run in the team, get over his nerves and take a few scalps. We desperately need an athletic beast to play 6 and Baleba is the only game in town.

Yep, I posted that last night. My 11 for the 2nd leg:

Bart
Veltman JPvH Dunk Pervis
Gilmour Baleba
Adringa Gross Lamptey
Welbeck

I'm torn between Lamptey and Fati (who I thought did OK when he came on) but I think Lamptey would give Pervis more protection and more license to overlap.
Everyone needs to card an 8 for us to have any chance.

Midtable doesn't actually exist.

The reason being is top 6 or 7 delivers a European place, bottom 6 or 7 is typically a relegation battle. Places 8th to 10th or 11th are all challenging for those European spots, 12th or so competing not to get dragged into the relegation fight - so there is no midtable obscurity until the end table.

If after 27 games we are around 10th, then the likelihood is we will be in touching distance of 6th or 7th. Right now we are 5 points off 6th. All to play for. Yes, I'll take that thanks.

It was literally only 2 seasons ago people were crying out for some midtable seasons away from the relegation battles.

We don't have to harp on about Withdean or what have you to say have a bit of context and realise for the first 4 seasons in the PL we were involved or at least hovered around a relegation fight.

A 9th then 6th place, and suddenly 9th isn't good enough after 27 games. The mind boggles it really does. 7 seasons in the top flight, our 3rd season of not worrying about a relegation battle, and we have fans losing it. Amazing really.

Now, I don’t like to single out a player But there was one point in the game he stoped chasing the player with the ball. Had to ask people around me if he was injured but just seems he was invisible. RDZ to Barcelona, Ferguson to Man Utd, any player that plays well for 4 games to Chelsea. You need to look at yourselves tonight and don’t believe the hype.
I think people are forgetting that Enciso was doing this before he was injured as well. He wasn't a fully rounded player yet, he had bad games and good ones. He had bad and lazy moments in games as well.
He needs time to develop, injury or not.

I agree with this. He scored a couple of worldies late last season and looked very good, he also started this season on fire. However I remember the first half of last season he was very hit and miss. Why can't our young players turn out for the U23s when they are returning from injury to gain fitness/sharpness?

I dare say they would if they weren't so desperately needed for the first team squad.
