They certainly should have made an agreement like that before the season started, and formalised it the rues and regulations for the season (and included those conditions in the TV deal). It would be the only sensible thing to have done.

But have they?

Don’t think so - rules require a board meeting to decide on how things will be determined. I guess there are too many variable for them to cover every eventuality in advance.

Thanks for the research #Dazzer - too much small print for my tired old eyes to take in there. As far as I can see (and I readily admit I might have missed it) there is no provision for ending a season that can't be completed?

At least I can now see why VAR is such a completely non-functional crock of shit. The football community has no cognitive conception of the simple (to the rest of us) phrase 'Clear and obvious'!

No, nothing specific....just speaks to they’d have a board meeting to decide.......so plenty of scope for arguing and perceived unfairness......

This is the same moron who predicted 500,000 deaths from BSE (CJD), and also in excess of 100,000 deaths I believe from some other virus.

His software ‘models’ have been ripped apart by other modellers as being completely unfit for purpose. As much as I have sympathy with any politician trying to navigate through this, using people whose preofessional judgement is often questioned is not a good policy.

If these new lockdowns are unwarranted, then the damage being done to people’s livelihoods is for no benefit.

..lol ye and yet it was stated back in May he had no further influence in matters after his bonking effort with his mistress ...the guy has zero credibility with some and yet there he is still at the heart of things

I agree, its not you being safe wearing a mask its the others who get a few beers down their necks and flout the rules.....
We wont be coming down to the Amex until its a lot lot safer, that will probably mean post vaccine roll out.

Its a personal choice of course...for myself I had no qualms about visiting the Amex yesterday after seeing how match day was handled for the preceding home game.

I think they there will be strenuous efforts to keep the Premier League going over Christmas - but maybe in January there will be the English winter break that the clubs have been wanting. Six weeks off or so combined with another lockdown and serious vaccination work might be better than struggling on with this and other things.

They may have to scrap Euro 2020 next summer if it starts hitting the continent's elite leagues soon. The biggest casualties would be nations like Finland and Scotland, who did brilliant to qualify.

I work with people who come from the wrong side of Chichester, some of them now in tier 4, one or two of those are completely dismissive of the whole lockdown thing . . . . It's been so wishy washy in/out all year, some people have given up giving a shit, mostly the ones who didn't give a shit to start with. The people who inadvertently spread shit around and got us into this situation. Pompey scum!

I was at the game. I can assure those who haven’t been that it really does feel much safer than being in the supermarket. Wasn’t really close to anyone at any point, and was pretty much outdoors the whole time.

I did wonder, when leaving the Amex on Sunday, whether that would be the last time we could be there this season.

Closed doors for a couple of months perhaps, but no fans in April or May?

Apart from the train back, which was like 2019. I won't be using the train again.

Ecologically bad but I drove there on my own. Probably wouldn’t go if I had to use public transport.

Yep, I will drive and/or cycle for when I next go. Public transport was OK getting there TBH, but not after the final whistle back to Brighton.

I'd say it's very likely that elite sport continues regardless. All sports are being run to very strict protocols to allow competition to continue, and carried on behind closed doors in November during that lockdown period. There's also mental well-being benefits of allowing elite sport to carry on to consider, although that may be debatable being an Albion fan at the moment...

It's so hard to tell. One thing this last nine months has demonstrated is how quickly something can change, as we're seeing once again this week.

There's also mental well-being benefits of allowing elite sport to carry on to consider, although that may be debatable being an Albion fan at the moment...

Footballers are not living in any kind of bio-bubble though. They have partners that work and will have other social interactions, however limited, as well as kids in school and the like.

We're seeing that the strict protocols you allude to do not stop the spread of the virus once it enters a coaching/playing group, and it doesn't take much for a club to have to cancel fixtures. With the expectation that the worst is still to come, squads are likely to be hit regularly, and I'm not sure how many simultaneously impacted clubs would trigger a pause similar to the one we had earlier this year.

Fan attendance is almost a secondary issue - there should be very little transmission at games with current protocols, and they could further mitigate risk by not allowing concourse-lingering.

100%.......even inside, there are so few people it’s really easy to stay distanced on the concourse. Everyone followed the rules - much more so than in town/supermarket etc - and kiosk queues felt safe (and weren’t large anyway).

The train would be the only thing that would bother me but I’m avoiding that and driving.

Just seen Millwall have joined Peterbrough United and AFC Sunderland in having to postpone their forthcoming games due to Covid outbreaks. Surely given the higher transmission of this mutant variant in can only be a matter of time before all sport is brought to a halt?? The consequences don't bear thinking about.

You are an exemplar of how little bait is required for a successful day by the lake. ??? :lolol:

To my eternal shame I was once taken in by some posts of yours in support of Brexit. I don't think anyone noticed though.

Keep your pecker up over Crimbo. I know only too well how it can go from smiles to tears at the drop of a paper hat

Calls for 'football circuit breaker' after seven players at one club test positive for COVID-19 in a week

In an "alarming" development, Ipswich Town FC has recorded seven positive coronavirus cases in one week, with more cases expected to be confirmed later.

Only two confirmed cases had been reported at the club in the previous nine months. It is believed this week's cases are the new variant of coronavirus.

Responding to the news, the club's physio Matt Byard has called for a "football circuit breaker" before players can return to the game safely.

"In previous cases at clubs, the confirmatory source can normally be isolated down to a coach journey or a lengthy meeting indoors. We, however, have had the same protocols in place since we started pre-season training," Mr Byard told the Club website.

He continued: "We have tested all the playing and coaching staff and from the results, we can detect the level of infection and see the patterns emerging, however it’s the speed of the transmission that tells us it’s the new strain.

"We will be re-testing all the staff on Wednesday who have previously tested negative and I do have concerns that there will be more positive cases."

I seriously doubt the PL will be stopped. If it happens it would probably be for a very short while.

I did wonder, when leaving the Amex on Sunday, whether that would be the last time we could be there this season.

Thats more likely. I thought allowing people to games was a naive decision to begin with. In lots of countries (including Sweden) they've decided to allow some people to go just to revert it weeks or a month later. I can understand the optimism on the subject in July-August, beginning of September.

But since October its been very obvious that the summer was just a summer break, not the pandemic fading out. Governments ****ing around with laws/rules like these after that point was/is just pretty mindless. First and foremost it sends mixed signals, and secondly I dont believe for a minute that its as safe as it might seem. There's still lots of debate on this virus abilities to spread in the air.
