They should be banned then the fans caught smoking real fags in The Amex won't have any excuse.

Not the real one
I think his point is that they used to be commonplace without any problems. Air quality on planes has reduced since they banned smoking.

There were plenty of problems. Aside from passengers squabbling because they got a non smoking seat next to a smoking section, (and the fact that smoking in public indoor places is outlawed) there was plenty of examples of fire onboard. The danger is any fire, for example a toilet waste bin fire, can get out of control fast. Less fags mean less lighters and less naked flame.
Fire at 35000ft means you have 5mins to get that fire under control from the first ignition. If you do not manage that, from the moment it becomes out of control, you have about 10-12 mins to get the plane down before people start to die.
So a bit more serious than smoking at the football.
As for the E-Cigs, i dont see a problem with them per say, but its just too difficult to police a real one from a fake one.

quick update (quite spooky that this thread should start today as i have just received a reply after 3 weeks) :-

David

We have decided that we will not allow electronic cigarettes in the stadium. The reason is that there is no way of knowing from a distance whether the cigarette is electronic or real. This could lead to disputes and conflict with stewards. It could also lead to those who smoke cigarettes believing that the electronic cigarette is real and smoking their own and causing potential conflict.

I hope this clarifies our position.

I'm a non smoker and always have been. Appreciate you've got an addiction but as others have said, what do you do when you go on holiday. You can't smoke in the airport and you can't smoke on the plane. Does your family have to sacrifice overseas holidays for the sake of you habit. What about last season? How did you cope. Perhaps you should wait outside until 2.55 (assuming a 3pm kick-off!) and leave as soon as the final whistle goes. If your habit is that bad then perhaps you should sacrifice the pre match drink in the concourse rather than expect the club to accommodate you.

Historically, smokers have in the main been thoughtless pricks who just light up when it suits them wherever they are. The last 25 years have seen the the pendulum swing the other way and the vast majority now appreciate the rights of non-smokers and generally ask before lighting up even when they have a legal right to do so. I might sound like a smokers worst nightmare but lung cancer has taken too many of my family for me to care too much about smokers rights.

How can you comment when you have never smoked, with having a drink at the football the craving for a fag goes up and being at football put both smokers and non smokers on edge at time and with all the shouting and cheering it's differicult for smokers, you can't comment as you have never smoke I was smoking for nearly 6 years and have now been over 6 weeks with out so I am on the slow path to becoming a non smoker

I used mine in the concourse and the stand last season with no problems. It's very easy to hide the vapour (some call it stealth-vaping) so often that's what I do. Mine is brushed metal in colour and doesn't have a light on the end (it's an eGo-C if anyone's interested).

I've also used it on numerous flights, in airports, shops, pubs, at work, at Wembey, at the Olympics and many other places. In over 1.5 years of using it I've been questioned only a handful of times and after explaining what it is, have always been allowed to continue. One of the main reasons I got it (besides the health benefits, lack of smell and money saving) was that I could use it indoors.

If someone wants me to stop because they or others think I'm doing something illegal then good luck to them!

So answer the questions in my first paragraph then. As for having the right to comment, when I was young you didn't have to be the one to light up to have to smoke the fumes whether that was on the train, at the cinema or even in the pub. I have the right to comment because smoking killed my dad, his brother and their father. Why is it that only smokers and ex smokers think they have the right to comment on the issue. Have you ever been a professional footballer, no, but that doesn't stop you commenting on players.

as allmost all of you will know i am now a non smoker but just before i stoped i had a e cig (with a green end ) how the hell can a steward mistake this for a real fag. Also as a reformed smoker i realy do think we should be encoraging the use of these not banning them as they help in the reduction of passive smoking also if a steward wants proof it is not real just put the end on his hand that will prove its not alight lol
